Coaching records in the first year
Man, I'm still optimistic about the future. What coach doesn't have problems in their first season?
Kirk Ferentz: 1-10
Greg Schiano (rutgers) 2-9
Bill Snyder: 1-10
Barry Alvarez: 1-10
Joe Paterno: 5-5
Dan Hawkins (Colorado) 2-10
Pete Carroll: 6-6 (2-5 in the first seven games)
Not saying that Chizik will be legendary. Just saying, give the man a chance.
Re: Coaching records in the first year
Last night clearly showed Chizik is not a miracle worker, but that's about all it showed. It would help if his senior quarterback didn't throw to the other team from time to time.
Re: Coaching records in the first year
Mack Brown 1-10 North Carolina

Thank you for some positive reinforcement here. It was one game, ONE! This is the process that has to be, and Kent State is better than what people think. When we stop them and cant score, they desearve to win.

I still think that Chizik's path will be most like Schiano's from Rutgers. Both are defensive coaches and both aren't/weren't in a quick fix situation. It will take a few years to get the right guys in the system and develop them. THEN we will see the bigger recruits come our way--until then we are going to have to develop our own talent and build this from the ground up.

John Majors: 3-7
Earle Bruce: 4-7
Donnie Duncan: 3-8
Jim Criner: 4-7
Jim Walden: 3-8
Dan McCarney: 3-8

Wow, that's depressing.

The one key difference I see is that we have a narrow window of opportunity to get it done. We have to capitalize and build some momentum the next two years when we don't play OU & Texas.

I don't think its so narrow. My hope in years 5 and 6 is that we have a good shot to COMPETE WITH and BEAT texas and OU.

Wow thanks, anybody got a WNBA team I can cheer for now/insert sarcasm:wacko:
I hate glass half empty people:no:
Re: Coaching records in the first year
We have a narrow window as far as fans are concerned. Our record ticket sales won't last long unless there's improvement in the W column and Division/Conference standings.

Maybe. Maybe not. I think as long as fans see steady progress throughout the next few years, they'll hang on for the ride (even those on the bandwagon). Pollard's crafty enough to put fans in the seats, even with a rebuilding project on the field. So maybe we go 3-9 this year, 5-7 next year, and then make a big leap when Chizik's recruits have developed in his system.
Re: Coaching records in the first year
I thought the biggest reason for the coaching change was to bring a new guy in, have him take his lumps the first year, then (hopefully) get it together for the 2 year stretch without OU and Texas. Build some momentum in the 2 years with the lighter schedule then see what he's really made of by the time the big boys get back on the schedule.

I'm glad somebody posted this!!! Open your eyes people. Success doesn't come overnight. Quit being selfish & give Chizik his due time to give it his best effort. We gave Dmac 12 years! You can at least give Chizik more than 1 game!
