Re: Flynn deserved and should have been the QB
Regardless of how Meyer played or plays the rest of the season, I always felt Flynn got the short end of the deal from Mac. Flynn took a beating behind a pathetic line his freshman year, and the next year Mac starts Meyer behind a vastly improved line.

Idea: Let's support the QB we have now, who I believe is a good one, instead of the QB we had that became a WR that has now graduated.
Prediction: Meyer goes on to have a good senior season, and this thread becomes even more irrelevant.

Re: Flynn deserved and should have been the QB
Seneca Wallace would be a better QB than Meyer right now too, but just like Flynn he's gone. Let's focus on this team, this season, and the future.

Re: Flynn deserved and should have been the QB
Here is something to keep in mind. The last 3 years, Meyer has been sacked 104 times. That's like 3 sacks every game he has played! A few have been his fault, but our line has sucked since he got here. When is the last time we have had a 1,000 yard rusher?
Bottom line, he is hesitant, and it shows. He is scared to get creamed when he passes, and I can't blame him. He is always throwing off his back foot, and that leads to picks. I think he is a very good QB, I still remember his 2005 Independence Bowl. I just think that he is playing timid. Year after year of playing behind crappy lines makes the quarterback look worse than he is. Just ask David Carr.

Or maybe he's just not that good.. he's regressed in the last two years and there's NO getting around that. He's put up some big numbers for ISU in his career, OK, I support that and I salute that, way to go Bret. But dam, he's played like sh** for like 14 straight games or so and it's time to say hey, what can your backup do? Bret's a great Cyclone, he's represented himself well over the years and I applaud him for that, but I'm sorry, that doesn't mean he's the man "just because"... IMO. he's got a LOT of work to do to stay starting QB...

Re: Flynn deserved and should have been the QB
Why are we having this discussion? That was last year, IT'S OVER! A more appropiate discussion would be Arnaud vs. Meyer

Re: Flynn deserved and should have been the QB
As Flynn's biggest fan....
Yeah, I was ****** off at Meyer taking Flynn's job at the beginning of the 2004 season. Yes, I was ESPECIALLY ****** when Mac benched Flynn for good starting with the Colorado game. But even I'll admit, Meyer is/was a better QB than Flynn.
Flynn was a better runner, but his passes bullet passes had too much air under them, and his lob passes aren't as long as Meyer's. He was also a better leader than Meyer, and wasn't afraid to get hit.
Overall though, Flynn was better than Meyer at everything.
So what if my sports hero is only a few years older than me, he will always be my favorite Cyclone of all-time.
Oh, as for the Arnaud vs Meyer argument, I'd say it's moreso Arnaud vs Bates. Based on everything I've read, I'm a Bates guy. Hm... Bates4Heisman?

This is my first post since game time - I just can't get into CF right now with all the second-guessing: both of the coaches and players AND of fellow fan's supportiveness.
I'll check back in a couple days when the irrational lashing subsides.

I'll check back in a couple days when the irrational lashing subsides. I said that because in his entire history of posting, I don't think he's ever said anything positive about the fans. It's always either been "you didn't want X, now he's amazing." "You're self-righteous..." blah blah blah. If he'd post something either in support of the team or the fans once in a while, it wouldn't be a problem.

Re: Flynn deserved and should have been the QB
Let's discuss something in the present like Austin's girlfriend!
Seriously, I was watching the game Thursday on CloneZone, so the detail wasn't great. But it seemed like Bret was throwing sidearm much more than I remember in the past. It looked like he released the ball below his shoulder. Hard to get it over the line with that technique. Am I just not remembering his technique from the past, poor detail on CloneZone, or accurate.
BTW this isn't a bash on Bret, I still have faith, just a question.

Re: Flynn deserved and should have been the QB
The question is when we will the qb of the future replace meyer, uni game or thereafter. Meyer has shown very little improvement in the years he has been starting.
