Would you like a Big 12 Channel? The best way for us to get that would be for the Big Ten to succeed.

Yes I would like a Big 12 channel, and I'm willing to pay for it. But I have the exact same feeling that it shouldn't make people, regardless of preference, pay for it. The ones that want it can elect to pay for it.

I agree with you. But what makes this different than the other half of channels on a package that I don't watch?
And I bet a majority on here would watch some of games on the Big Ten network expecially when ISU is on it playing Iowa at Iowa. More than a lot of other channels we receive.

I do have the same feeling about all the other channels that I never watch. Come to think of it, probably 80% of the channels that I receive. But I think this will set a precedent for other specialty channels that are going to be created. I wish that they just have pay by channel system, but it's probably not going to happen.

I am not quite sure why the Big 10 thought they needed there own network, they already had that with ESPN !

The entire thing is a double-edged sword. If BTN was granted basic cable listing, then the precedent for all conference networks, will be to get the same placement. Thinking that my bill would go up around $5-$10 for each "$1.10 subscription fee," we'd be looking at a $40 bill increase because of these channels. However, perhaps to test the ratings, the cable companies and BTN should set a sort of "time-table" for a calender year, where they have it on basic, and monitor the ratings. If it gets X viewers during MBB and FB seasons, and it maintains at least X/2(or 3) during the off-season, they'd keep it there. Otherwise, off to tier it goes.
I know this is just wishful thinking so this terrible kidney stone would pass, but oh well.

***edit***...after making the post below i learned in another thread that the BTN airs about 3 games at once on sub channels, so maybe its not all bad. my bad, but all my research never once found that little tidbit floating in cyberspace. my stance has probably changed completely.
im not sure if a big 12 network would really benefit the ISU fans. My research of the big 10 network still has me on the bubble as to wether or not its good for fans of any particular school...also there seems to be no guidlines really as to what games will be on other networks...to me its real dicey as to whether or not iowa fans will still see lots of iowa games(like they have since well...forever). The bottom line is the BTN can only televise one game at a time, and will it be regional thing????
if your a non biased fan and just love to see big 10 football, then sure its great. Iowa fans are pretty fortunate from what i have found to at least see quite a bit of games still on espn u(in the event that they dont have the BTN) and mediacom covered yesterdays game. ISU already gets little coverage on espn/abc as it is for a local school...then factor in thier games competing in a saturday programing schedule vs the like OU, nebraska, and Texas games, and really I see ISU getting less TV coverage than it already does.
looking ahead to basketball season, most of my friends are hawkeye fans, who get to see a ton of basketball games on espn/fox, and they are pretty certain that number will get reduced greatly as BTN creates its schedule.
I really want to see how this pans out in the next 6 months and talk to hawkeye fans to see how it affects them...ones with BTN(direct tv?), and those who dont have it offered in the programing(dish network/mediacom).
facts? thoughts? insight? concerns?

A big 12 channel with a few sub channels...That would pretty much get us on every week. The sub channel thing has opened a ton of eyes I think.
That is way better than being on Versus one time IMO.
