Lets run single-receiver sets!

Seriously...if Brett is only going to look at one receiver each play it might as well be Blythe. So either we have Blythe on an island, or we've got 10 vs. 9 on the other side of the field.

This will probably never happen, but I remember Iowa running this before successfully in Tate's soph year....its just painfully obvious Brett can't go through read progressions. How about it!

Re: Lets run single-receiver sets!

I wouldn't agree with this for the reason given above due to bad reciever progression, but more for the fact to help block out for the run. How would you like to see an I-form, single reciever set for the first play of the game. Just the same as seeing a 5 wide set as well. It could be benifical, but could also be disasterious.

Re: Lets run single-receiver sets!

Well, of what I saw the other night, a lot of the problems for Meyer were not progression, though I'm not saying that isn't an issue of his at all. Arm strength really seemed to be the big one for me which then resulted in accuracy problems. But the running game was working most of the time, so bring in 7 wide set and a FB and that could be fierce.

As the season progresses, we will have to see how it goes. I don't believe Chizik is going to pull Meyer if there is any chance of salvaging a successful season. A full time move to Arnaud would probably signal a look to the future. I would not mind if Chizik put Arnaud in for a few plays a game, just to get him a taste of action for next year.

I'm not saying Bates is a better qb than Arnaud or Meyer. But after watching certain games part of me is wanting Bates to take over to see a very elusive and quick QB back there!

Exactly what I was thinking! Meyer is SO bad at checking to 2nd & 3rd receivers that last year the coaches actually gave up on that theory & had him start looking at the 3rd & 2nd receivers & coming back to the primary option anyways! Yep, backwards! So if the primary is Blythe, Meyer would look at a couple other guys for the hell of it & then wing it to Blythe. As we all should know, the Big 12 coaches figured this out in a hurry. That's actually quite embarrassing for the D-1 level!

It's obvious we're not gonna be awesome this year due to new staff & tough schedule, so let's see Arnaud & Bates!

The replacement qback needs to break those hand tackles that knocks Bret down so much.
