Let me quote was is wrong with this article. being cheered by 60,000 people. try 47,000+ a dignitary such as myself. What????? I've never given a school a new name for its mascot. The mascot came after the nickname change. This entire mascot "contest," like the 'i' in SPiN, was undoubtedly set up by an Iowa State infiltrator who wanted to get me to Ames, where the passionate fan base could tell me once and for all what they thought of my story that led to the downfall of seedy Wayne Morgan His record and direction of team, not your article Gregg.
All in all this article lives up to what I expect from you.

What a dumb article. Even from an objective standpoint, that is very poor journalism. Low-quality writing and an inability to convey the humor he was attempting to convey.

I'm not sure this guy will ever be convinced that he had absolutely nothing to do with the firing of Wayne Morgan.

Anyone seen Gregg Doyel's latest column about his visit to Ames to present CBS Sportsline's Most Dominant Mascot award to Cy? Here it is: LINK
I thought the part about the tournament being "rigged" was kind of funny. I also appreciated his generally positive description of Ames and the Iowa State fans and administration. Overall, though, it's typical Gregg Doyel. I'm glad he patted himself on the back and saved me the trouble of having to do it for him...

Why do I always grimace when I see Gregg Doyle mentioned on CF?

Sorry for creating a duplicate thread. I did a search to see if anyone posted the column, and it came up negative. Oh well... Apparently I'm the only one who thought the article was funny.

You're not the only one. I found it amusing.

I thought the article was generally positive as well. Yeah, he overstated the attendance, but doesn't that make us look better? I'd much rather have the nation think we had 60,000 there than the actual number. And some of his comments, such as the dignitary comment, were obviously tongue-in-cheek, and should be taken that way.

The article was fine and Doyel is what he is. It is obnoxious that he constantly brings up the "fact" that he got Wayne Morgan fired for his non-story story but, like I said, Doyel is what he is.

Did the people know it was actually gregg Doyel presenting the award? I would have thought he would be booed out of the stadium.

I thought it was just some CBS rep that they sent out to Iowa State.

I have been out most of the week so I don't know if anyone has posted this. It is the article written after Cy was awarded as Champ during halftime of the Kent State game.
Thankfully there is no mention of the score of the game.
