CFB: Week 1

Powerhouses flexing their muscles. One tried, and failed. Marquee games with BCS implications. Nifty runs, amazing catches, bone-crushing hits.

The new rule moving the kickoff back 5 yards added a nice twist. Revoking the possession change clock rule was a gift from the Gods.

Really enjoyed Week 1. Maybe it's just me, but it somewhat had a bowl weekend feeling.

Nice job outta you, CFB - nice to have ya back!

Re: CFB: Week 1

The Big 12 had a pretty good showing this weekend:

-K-State played tough but lost late to Auburn
-Mizzou beat Illinois (always good to beat the Big Ten)
-Oklahoma destroyed North Texas
-Colorado beat Colorado St. in overtime
-A&M had a solid win
-Kansas with a blowout!
-Nebraska with a big win

Not all of it was pretty, though:
-Texas, after all their jawing about us blowing it against Kent State, barely eeks out a win over powerhouse Arkansas State
-Oklahoma State stayed competitive with Georgia for about a half, then fell apart
-Baylor was...Baylor
-ISU

But, at least we didn't have a Top 5 team lose at home to D-IAA. I'm glad it happened to the Big Ten. They deserve it.

I was really impressed with K-State and CU's Hawkins. Without and astonishing number of critical penalties KSU would have won. I only saw a half of CU-CSU but Hawkins looked really good for an RS Frosh.

Oh, and I was at the first half of the KU game and they looked a lot better than I thought they would. No idea if CMU was just bad or if they are actually that good but they totally dominated today.

I really, really wish K-State would have beaten Auburn. They would have, had it not been for their mind-blowing penalty list. Getting frantic right at the end didn't help any, either.

On a separate note, since when did "Football Bowl Subdivision" and "Football Championship Subdivision" replace "D-1" and "D-1AA"? Having fancy names is all well and good, but those things are really cumbersome to say and easy to confuse verbally. I'm not a fan, and will continue to refer to them by their sensible names.

Normally I would gently chide someone over a misspelling that changes a word's meaning, lingui-nazi that I am, but in this case, it's amusingly appropriate. "Eke" is the verb you were looking for, but "eek" is what Texas had to have been saying!

I believe the term you are looking for is "wow". It's not grammatically correct to add the "-za" at the end.

Deep within the heart of Iowa, a storm is brewing...
... the winds of change ripple throughout the vast fields of corn surrounding the small college town of Ames.

The Gene Chizik era of football continues, and, with it, a renewed attitude of pride, determination, and success.

This is Cyclone Football.
