Looking ahead to 2008.
I'm doing that already. So sue me.
Here's a partial schedule:
8/30 Sat vs. Northern Iowa
9/6 Sat vs. Kent
9/13 Sat @ Iowa
9/20 Sat @ Nevada-Las Vegas
We also play Nebraska, Missouri, Colorado, Kansas, Kansas State, Baylor, Oklahoma State, and Texas A&M.
Here are my predictions:
UNI - L
Kent* - L
Iowa - L
UNLV* - L
Nebraska - L
Missouri - L
Colorado - L
Kansas - W
Kansas State - L
Texas A&M - L
Oklahoma State - L
Baylor - L
No particular order; I just through them that way. I have no idea what the conference schedule is.
The real problem is that, yes, the South schedule gets "easier" next year, but Baylor, Oki State, and Texas A&M are improving at the wrong time for us. I don't see us beating any of them.
Kansas is still Kansas, and I think we'll pick up a W somewhere...
Oh, yeah, the * -- are these road games? Maybe not necessarily; lately we've had a "2-games-on-our-field-for-1-game-on-yours" agreement with teams from "lesser" conferences. Even if those games are on our field, I don't see us beating them.

Re: Looking ahead to 2008.
We don't play UNI until 2010. Next year's opener is vs. South Dakota State.
Do us a favor and don't make predictions until the season is over.
As it's listed on Cyclones.com:
vs. SDSU
vs. Kent State
at Iowa
at UNLV
vs. Kansas
at Baylor
vs. Nebraska
vs. Texas A&M
at Oklahoma State
at Colorado
vs. Missouri
at Kansas State

This IS the correct schedule, and our fortunes will start to change with that schedule and a year under our belt. I'd hate to face my daily life thinking I'm going 0-12 everyday. Whew...Thanks for the correct info here.

I agree with ARCH... still looking forward to this week's game and the remainder 10 games... I actually had the opportunity to chat with "Ace" Bowen after the game as they walked from the stadium... Class ACT ! The first thing he said was "sorry we couldn't get you guys a win tonight. Thanks for the support and we still have 10 games left."
That's what true fans should see... and glad to hear the players thinking that way tooo....
Go Clones !

Wow, since next year will apparently suck so bad, what is your assessment for 2009-2015? Forever trying to find a cure for the Dunning-Kruger Effect. -

12-0. Mark it down. Of course, with our luck and the ebb and flow of college football, USC and LSU are bottom 10 material by then. -

Re: Looking ahead to 2008.
Next year we hardl lose any starters.
We lose-
Meyer(starter for now)
Blythe
Barkema
and thats it for Offense. We get our entire Oline back.
On D we lose
Rubin
Braaksma
Bowen
Banks
And Culbertson on Sp Teams. We lose some key players, but having 7/8 returning starters on each side of the ball, maybe more if a couple of these guys dont get pulled, will be a big step in improving next year.

OFFENSE WILL BE FINE, DEFENSE COULD BE WORSE.
Looking forward to CFH magic for the next bball season, Georges style. -
Re: Looking ahead to 2008.
Here is my new theory.
We go after, spy, staulk etc the best O and Dline players we can find and a kicker. I think we have been putting too much stock in our prime time players. Good lines make average players look really good. If we can actually get a kicker that everyone trust then the rest will fall into place. that is my new outlook. I will take a great O-line over anything right now. Could you imagine if JJ Bass had a huge hole to run through? This wears their defense down and kills the clock when we need to.
Then maybe a player like Blythe gets his touches.
Make sure you don't call the charge. But make sure you call the foul on the scrum....
