COLTAR, from the frozen planet of Throzar.

Re: Sanvig still #1 punt returner
There is no way I would let Sanvig return a punt for the rest of this season, unless we were winning by 4+ TD's in the 4th quarter. Even then I think I would regret it. The kid has some confidence issues.
There has got to be SOMEONE who can catch a punt and run a few yards and hold onto the ball before getting lit up by the opposing team.

There has been some decent players, Tyson Smith and and Oline guy not too long ago. I don't think they had as much hype as Scales and Sandvig though. I also don't see the two redshirts doing much ever either, hope they do, but I don't see it.

Re: Sanvig still #1 punt returner
I wanna believe that the coaches just aren't changing the depth chart. There's no rule saying that he has to start whomever is on the depth chart. In the past he said hes not gonna disclose an injury unless its season ending, why give the oppoenent any more info ahead of time than you need to? Kurt Fuhrantz is the master of hiding obvious stuff for weeks.

Re: Sanvig still #1 punt returner
Tyson Smith went to Dowling. Valley produced Casey Shelton, who was one of the anchors of the OL that watched Seneca run for his life the back half of '03. From the really ugly McCarney years, there was Dave Brcka. And then from the not as ugly McCarney years, Joe Woodley. Look at it this way, it's not like any Valley players have gone on to be good anywhere else... sans Justin Hartwig.

Flynn and a few others ran for their lives in '03.

Re: Sanvig still #1 punt returner
Sandvig has been back for 5 punts.
2 = successful fair catches
2 = muffed / fumbled the catch
1 = caught, ran 2 yards, fumbled, they scored, we lost to I-AA

Re: Sanvig still #1 punt returner
I'm not sure how useful this thread actually is because I can almost bet not one person on CF is going to reply to this thread saying they believe Sanvig should still be out on the field for any type of return.
For 2 reasons
1. Sanvig shouldn't be back on the field
2. The fear of how much flame you would get in return from other CF members is not something anyone would want to force upon themselves

Re: Sanvig still #1 punt returner
Give the guy a break. He's a freshman...maybe a little overwhelmed you think? Let him settle down and show what he can do.

Re: Sanvig still #1 punt returner
Colin Menard was from Valley too. He had a ton of potential but was burnt out on football by the time he made it to ISU.

Sure he may settle down and catch the next 10 in a row, but how confident can you be that he will not drop another one... especially in a big game?
Find someone else and let Sandvig concentrate on being a CB.

Re: Sanvig still #1 punt returner
We gave him a break. It was the UNI game. He screwed up. Again. Maybe next year.
