Patriots cheating? So far Goodell says yes

ESPN - Sources: Pats suspected of stealing Jets' signals - NFL

Jets accused the Pats of stealing their signals. The NFL has confiscated the camera and tape of a camera man.

Same guy the Packers accused of doing the same thing when they played the Pats last season.

EDIT - update on the situation

ESPN - Sources: Goodell determines Patriots broke rules - NFL

Sources told ESPN's Chris Mortensen that NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has determined that the Patriots broke league rules when they videotaped defensive signals from the Jets and the NFL is considering severe sanctions. The Pats will have a chance to present their defense by Friday.

Goodell is considering severe sanctions, including the possibility of docking the Patriots "multiple draft picks" because it is the competitive violation in the wake of a stern warning to all teams since he became commissioner, the sources said. The Patriots have been suspected in previous incidents.

    woo thats messed up
Iowa State: Anyone who's a true college basketball fan needs to see a game at Hilton Coliseum. Nice is in the DNA of Iowans and the fans here are particularly gracious -- even when the home team loses but gives a great effort, they are appreciative.

ESPN.com picked Hilton Coliseum as the "Hot Arena" in the Big 12...coaches in the league noted that, "regardless of talent, the Cyclones have a home court like no other."

The ESPN article said that it was against NFL policy.

Who was it that claimed the Patriots had audio from a QB's signal calls so they could try to learn them and figure out cadence patterns? I think it might have been Miami.

Yes, I think Miami made a complaint last year or the year before against the Pats.

As long as they steal plays so that they can set up Maroney to run for more yards and touchdowns, I could care less. (1st string RB on my fantasy team). Dude only had 78 yards and no touches, so they need to do better with that.

This is why you are supposed to have mixed signals and have more than one guy sending the signals in. Have they ever heard of calling audibles. Play football and quit crying. BTW I can't stand the Pats, besides Mr. Hobbs.

    Re: Patriots cheating?

This has been comfirmed by the NFL. NE could lose draft picks.

ESPN - Sources: Goodell determines Patriots broke rules - NFL

My question...why is this not a bigger deal? It doesn't seem like people are really talking about this, only mentioning it and then moving on. The media LOVES to cover stories about individual athletes cheating (steriods) but this is a whole organization that is cheating!!

Is it because these are the beloved New England Patriots?

I've never understood the double standard between sports. Rick Ankeil, Glaus, and a bunch of no names use HGH and it's plastered everywhere and it's a scandal. Rodney Harrison, Shawn Merriman get caught and not a word is said except "Oh, by the way these guys got suspended for 4 games".

I say the throw the book at the Patriots and Coach Belicheat...

    -loss of draft picks
    -forfeiture of games
-make Belichick dress more professionally on the sidelines from now on-coat and tie

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes.

Sportscenter showed a clip of Ellis Hobbs tonight during an interview over the situation, and he was wearing an Iowa State hat.

“One day we’ll be in here celebrating a Big 12 championship,” Rhoads said. “That I can promise you.”
