We got votes baby!

Obviously this isn't where we all want to be at, but ISU has three votes in the AP poll and 9 in the coaches poll. Honestly, I'm surprised at this because most media types can't get past the fact that we lost so much on defense.

I don't know if we're top 25 material, but the fact that some coaches and writers think we are, I think is flattering considering all of the unknowns for the upcoming season.

We're first in the dbronco poll, and this is one of the rising polls of the nation... some are even thinking they may replace BCS selection off of this poll.

D-Mac actually votes in the Coaches' Poll, so there's almost always one vote for Iowa State. I think that we belong somewhere near 31st in the nation, which is where I think that poll places us.

Deep within the heart of Iowa, a storm is brewing...
... the winds of change ripple throughout the vast fields of corn surrounding the small college town of Ames.

The Gene Chizik era of football continues, and, with it, a renewed attitude of pride, determination, and success.

It's interesting to see Oklahoma still so high with many of their own unknowns, like a starting QB. I know they're Top 25 material but I don't see them being that high at any point in the season.

Iowa is another team that is very hard to judge because they are young in some areas but well developed in others. I hate Iowa but I think they're at a decent starting point for the season. They have a pretty easy schedule early on this year so they should be able to polish the rough edges before they get to Big Ten play. I still think they finish 3rd in the Big Ten.

A program isn't built on one player and it doesn't succeed because of one player, thus a program won't fail if it doesn't get that one player.

Even Ohio State is picked to be #1 by many publications, despite their explosive offense and their unproven defense. Sound familiar?

I think the majority of why these teams have been picked higher is because of the quality of recruits they bring in. Their unprovens are a safer pick with those 4/5 star recruits rather than our 2/3 star recruits.

The exciting aspect about this season is you can make a case for 5 or 6 teams (minimum) to be ranked #1. This is the first time in a while where it is really tough to pick a clear cut #1. I do not put too much emphasis on pre season rankings, especially this year, because it seems like every good team in the nation has so many unknowns. It should be a very interesting year.

We all know that Preseason Polls are BS and are largely based on last year and anticipated schedule strength...not really returning players.

One thing you hear over and over is how OSU lost so many defensive guys...They are Ohio State though and their backups could probably be starters at many, many other schools. Sure they will take a little to get broken in but those top schools have so much talent that maybe they actually do deserve the #1 ranking.

With the linebackers OSU lost, their defense cannot possibly be as good as last year.
