This argument just doesn't hold water. Has Iowa scheduled many (any?) teams better than Iowa State for the next 5 years?
2008 - TBD
Fla. International
Iowa State
at Pittsburg
2009 -
UNI
ISU
Arizona TBD
1010 -
Iowa State
at Arizona TBD TBD
Pittsburg is a decent game. But that's it. Iowa State has had more success than Arizona as of late. So the talk about scheduling a "better" game just isn't happening.

That is just stupid it is a rivialry you play every year or you just end it. Just like if Iowa and MN didn't play for Floyd one year that would be stupid. The game is great for the State of Iowa and sould be played do I really care if we play Iowa no because then I wouldn't have to hear as much crappy from some of my friends on how good Iowa is in a crappy big 10/11.

The money issue (visitor's 20% of gate) is just a red herring. Their budget is what, double ours? I have a hard time mustering any sympathy over their "lost revenue." If U of I donors that have lost their access to unlimited, inexpensive tickets to the games in Ames are pushing to end the series, that is disappointing.
Something that few Hawkeye fans would admit is that this game is and has been huge for them; even being a factor in building their program. Their recruiting (especially in-state) has had a big advantage for years because of their success against Iowa State. Now the easy wins have gone away and they want out.
Yeah well, ya know, that's just, like uh, your opinion, man. -

This argument just doesn't hold water. The point of my argument is that ISU needs to maximize exposure. Every game is an opportunity for exposure to some market outside of Iowa. Playing Iowa eliminates one of those exposure opportunites, because frankly, nobody outside of Iowa (except for alumni) cares much about the Iowa/ISU game, and it is covered as such.
To make matters worse, when ISU plays both UNI and Iowa in the same season, two opportunities for exposure are thrown down the drain.
I understand it's probably good in-state politics to play Iowa and UNI. If ISU has to play to these teams to satisfy state politicians, then at least do it in alternating years.

Good grief they whine a lot...

This all does not matter anyway, it is Iowa law that the two teams must play each other. It is all just a p*nis sizing contest.

Re: Iowa, ISU at odds over deal (football contract)
I would be willing to bet the Chamber of Commerce in Iowa City and Ames don't want to have this series axed.
I often wonder what our fan base would be like if we cancelled this series. This series polarizes the state; either you're a Hawk or a Cyclone. If there wasn't the obvious polarity there would our fanbase increase or decrease? Would there be more crossover fans that would suppport both schools? Would it affect instate recruiting any?

I have disagree...If you look at Iowa's ROster and Iowa State's roster there are very few common recruits. ISU and Iowa went different directions in recruiting and the vast majority of the players on both teams had both schools on thier interest lists.
You are blowing the "hugeness" of this game out of proportion...I believe for both sets of fans. I really don't think the vast majority of fans on both sides view this game as huge...If it is so huge then why do so many fans want to end the series.

? Iowa sells every game out so that is a moot point.
I don't agree with that at all.. Iowa City is full of people no matter who we play..When Wisconsin comes to town it often seems like there are more Badgers in I.C. than Iowans...I rarely see ISU fans stick around Iowa City after the game. The fact that it is impossible to find an open hotel room for miles around I.C. (and likely ames) isn't because of the visiting teams fans.

I believe the BOR has encouraged in-state teams playing each other but there is no law that says they must.

Re: Iowa, ISU at odds over deal (football contract)
If Iowa was relevant, nationally, like they seem to think they are (they aren't), and I thought for one minute they would schedule a big time game, I could see it. But they will replace us with a directional school, for a cheap win.
I really don't care about this game anymore. I can't respect something that was sooo crucial to someone sooo mediocre being allowed to keep his job.
