You think college football was as big then as it is today? Do you really?

ISU does not bring the biggest crowd to I.C. each year....Wisconsin at least triples the crowds. DId you go downtown Ames after the UNI game.. I am sure that it was no different than I.C. there was an estimated 30,000 people downtown I.C. after the syracuse game..I am beginning to wonder that the average non-cyhawk home game in Ames is different than it is in I.C.

The Scenario you mention about sports bars being packed and thousands of non-ticket holders at the tailgates is an every home game thing in I.C. since ISU has big crowds at thier games I am sure that it is not much diffent...is it?

I'm sure that tens of thousands of fans drove in from Syracuse so they could have the wonderful experience of seating in a sports bar in IC. Have you ever been to Wisconsin? I have and the bars and atmosphere there is a hundred times better than IC. If I was a Wisconsin fan and wanted to party during the game I would stay home. Get real my friend ISU brings more money to IC than some school a thousand miles away.

I believe Pollard, if he says he has correspondance to the fact then who is Barta to say that it doesn't count?

I just took a nap, and I had the most wonderful dream:

1.) Barta throws his little s**tfit and gets the series cancelled
2.) We beat Iowa the next four years
3.) We schedule several home-and-home series against Wisconsin. As someone who grew up a Badger fan, I'd commit a felony to be able to see a Cyclone game in Camp Randall.

Re: Iowa, ISU at odds over deal (football contract)

IMO, both teams need to keep this game if for no other reason than to be a part of a big rivalry that keeps getting bigger every year. One day when we are both powerhouse football teams we may be considered one of the "biggest, baddest" rivalry games in the country. I wouldn't mind being associated with that. That's what rivalries are about.

I think the series must stay.

THIS syracuse fan explains what I.C. is like on a game weekend when even a lowly program like cuse is in town.

Actually I love that picture and I would like to do that to some of the horses that I have bet on that ran "Out of The Money"!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have said it before and I have seen every ISU and IU game played since 1977 and oh yes I was in Kinnick for the first four games.

If Iowa State ever becomes competitive with IU aka wins some of the games then the squawkeye fans will find some flimsy excuse to get out of the series.

I for one wont miss the jerks because from 1962 until 1977 I did NOT see the Iowa game and I never missed a thing!!!

Goodbye iowa u dont let the door hit your backside on the way out of this series!!

I have gone to every Iowa vs. Wisconsin game for the last 11 years..yes I have been to Madtown. The difference between Madtown and I.C. isn't anywhere near the difference between I.C. and Hickory parkville. (ames)

Looks like the series will extend to 2020. Any first year law student will tell you they have a contract.

This only happened because SU is NOT a threat to the UofI. ISU is.... I have stories (yes plural and they range over 15 years) from IC (I will NEVER go back after 2004) that will make an 18th century sailor blush. LITERALLY. As bad as you would/could imagine.

They are bad and I would be banned for saying what took place... all because I wore my ISU garb.

I don't know how "big" college FB was back then, but it was big enough for many schools to build tradition that we still talk about today.

In any case, somehow, the ISU and Iowa FB programs managed to survive 40 years without playing each other. And ISU wasn't doing too badly when the series was revived. The schools and the fans will easily survive again after both AD's decide to cancel the series...

They disagree on whether or not a binding agreement has been reached, but both schools agree that the series will continue long into the future. Jamie and Gary just have to get together to talk about it, that's all.

I remember getting a call Saturday morning.

"Hey, I thought you'd appreciate this. I was visiting a friend in Iowa City, and I'm driving through town to get back to Ames for the game.

Anyway, I have an ISU flag on the window...I've never had so much s&%t thrown at my car in my entire life."

I've been to Iowa games against ISU and against the likes of Ohio State and Michigan. It's silly to argue the tailgating atmosphere is the same. ISU brings by far the largest crowd of "non-ticketed" tailgaters and barflies.
