ISU Football Team Elects Captains, McCarney Talks About Saturday Scrimmage
Cyclones.com Link "It appeared there weren’t any major injuries and when you scrimmage almost 100 plays, which we got today and that didn’t include all the kicking, you hope and pray we come out of it in pretty good health, and I think we did. There was some minor stuff as always, but I don’t think we had anything major. Hopefully that will hold up here the next couple of days. "It was a very competitive situation, many game situations that can and will come up in every game. We got a lot done. I was impressed with the way this team came to practice. We’ve been in camp since July 31. That’s a long camp, but they came out with a great attitude today and we elected our captains last night. It’s an outstanding group that I announced before we went out today with Bret Meyer and Austin Flynn on offense and DeAndre Jackson and Brent Curvey on defense. It was a landslide with those four. They just ran away with it. I’m really proud of their leadership. They’ve been doing that since January and it was no surprise to me that those are our four captains. "Defensively I thought we played the run better today than we have in camp since we’ve been there. It wasn’t that they completely dominated our number one offense. The first two sets I went ones against twos and the rest of it was ones-ones, twos-twos, threes-threes. There were some good plays made and some big plays made. Austin Arnaud continues to make plays every time he gets an opportunity. He rolled with twos and threes. Kyle Van Winkle went one set with the ones and Bret (Meyer) of course was running with the ones the whole time. "I thought there was some give and take, and some positives on both sides of the ball. We didn’t come out of it saying, ‘Boy, our defense really stunk,’ or ‘We didn’t do this on offense,’ or ‘We were really poor in one area.’ I’m anxious to watch the tape. You can see so much more than just standing out there on the field. We had eight total penalties on 100 plays, which is too many, but one of those was a celebration at the end of the overtime when the ones beat the twos, so I will take that as long as we win the overtime." We had three or four (turnovers). It was a day that you go, ‘Defensively, we are keeping with the tradition that we have.’ We can get some turnovers and takeaways. Offensively we’ve got to do a better job of taking care of that. It wasn’t all the number one offense, but a few too many turnovers offensively, and it was good for our defense to get some. -
Ha...we posted this at about the same time so I merged my thread into yours. :)

Great minds think alike :)

I can't think of anyone that deserves to be a captain more than Austin Flynn...Going from starting QB to bench warmer to starting receiver and didn't play the transfer card. From what I hear, he is also a great guy. I'm glad we have players like him to represent Iowa State.

There would be few greater stories should Flynn once again excel this year and somehow make it onto an NFL roster and see some action.
It'll be real tough for him to fit in the NFL someplace...yet he's got the heart and determination to be one of those surprise players.

Don't forget Flynn's girlfriend SMOKIN HOTTT!!! He's my captain just for that.

I think those were good choices for captains... 3 seniors and your QB.
This is my sarcasm pirate. There are many like it but this one is mine. -
When you throw the ball to Flynn and Blythe, they catch it. More than you can say for the Big Red receivers, unless Herrion comes back.
Did anybody watch the Big 12 review of the Cyclones on Fox tonight at 9:00? Lots of play up for James Smith who is now injured. The pocket rocket from Haiti and 8 orphan families.
Looking forward to CFH magic for the next bball season, Georges style. -
WHOO! Flynn's a captain! And it's about time I say. :D
As his biggest fan, it's great news. Got his autograph, and a picture with him at the spring game. Huge dream come true for me.
This may be a bit off-topic (but it is Flynn related), has anyone else run (2003), passed (2003, 2004), and recieved (2005) for touchdowns against Iowa besides him? :) Originally Posted by ripvdub Don't forget Flynn's girlfriend SMOKIN HOTTT!!! He's my captain just for that. Pics! Now! :p

I really wish I was Austin Flynn! Not just because of his girlfriend, but because of his talent and his team player attitude and because he is just an all-around great guy... but yeah mostly for his girlfriend
