I have nothing against Jon and won't listen to any local talk radio this week. To me it's a colossal waste of air time. I haven't listened to Hawk fans on Iowa-ISU week in years. I won't start now. I don't listen to most Cyclone fans this week either. To be honest, both fan bases say stuff that I can't believe so I'll keep my distance.
Well congrats Jon. You got this site buzzing. Mission accomplished.
Seriously you guys are playing right into his show and his crap. If he is done with us than why does he spend so much time on here and then you will see him week after week down the the Iowa Beef tailgate. He even admitted to us that he just loves to stir up both sides and watch as they all duke it out. The guy hasn't even been to an Iowa football game since 2003 he said. So tell me how you guys can take him seriously. He is playing you like Marty Tirrell.
I really have no problem with Jon. He's a hawk fan like many that I know. I treat him like any other person I know that has a disability. I try to be mindful and sensitive to their handicap.
With that said I can probably save folks a lot of time that are considering listening to his show. I think it will go something like this. Poor Iowa has been getting the short end of the stick on the gate contract.
Insert math to make Iowa look like a victim. Example math
Iowa home game 70k@60 = 4.2M gate. ISU gets 20% or 840k and Iowa keeps 3.36M.
ISU home game 55k@60 = 3.0M gate. Iowa gets 20% or 600k and ISU keeps 2.4M.
Over the course of two years Iowa gets 3.96m and ISU gets 3.24m.
What Iowa fans are crying about is that they give up 840k and they only get 600k in return. Iowa fans like to ignore two important facts. The increased ticket prices which they are crying about will help negate this disparity and they also still receive more than half of the total gate over a two year period.
Maybe we should chose a neutral site and split the revenue like they do with the Oklahoma/Texas rivalry. Would that make the hawks happy? Of course not, because they are already the beneficiary of receiving more than half of the revenue generated at the gate. Somehow I'm guessing you won't hear Jon crying about that fact when he spins the numbers to make Iowa look like the victim.
What this really comes down to is Iowa is ****** that JP raised ticket prices and required people to purchase season tickets in order to be able to have a ticket to the Iowa game. Iowa's response is to cry like a baby and threaten to take their ball and go home because they can't control what ISU does with their ticket prices and policies.
Convenient time to try and get Cyclone Nation all riled up John. Two o'clock is coming around here soon and if you don't stir up some people you may end up sitting in a studio talking to people about a boring outlook to this game since the Cyclones really don't have a lot of confidence for it right now after the last two weeks.
If he really bashes ISU today, let's start a boycott of all products and services advertised on his show. He may have the mic, but we have a voice if we want it.
The more I think about it...I think the media cares 10 times more about this game than the fans. Are more people going to listen to talk radio this week? Read the paper? I doubt it.
I could give 2 turds about the Iowa Hawkeyes and their mouthpieces. If we didn't get force-fed the Iowa-ISU crap from the media, this rivalry would be MUCH better IMO. Let the friendly bets and friendly smack talk with your friends and coworkers control this week...not what Jon Miller or the Des Moines Register or anyone on KXNO says. It's all a ploy to get ratings...plain and simple.
