I yearn for the day when GC gets ISU back to a level where this rivalry has some energy. I used to get pumped for rivalry week. I love good natured ribbing that goes on surrounding a rivalry, but I can't even get fired up this time around.
I'm the same way...maybe it has a lot to do with being 450 miles away. Watching the RVTV clip on WHO's website with Kieth Murphy this morning did manage to stir up some excitement in me along with a few laughs.
He filled in for Deace one week back in '05. I was still listening to KXnO then. He was on air after our loss to Baylor telling us that HawkeyeNation was looking at us like Tom Hanks on the bridge in Saving Private Ryan ie. we needed to 'earn' our victory over them.
They are so delusional it is almost funny to watch. Earn this - I could handle something like that coming from Nebraska, Texas, or Oklahoma. Iowa????
Did he say it with a straight face? haha that is the corniest thing I've ever heard.
That could be our new mantra to any team that beats ISU. EARN THIS. But you've got to mean it, like you're dying on a battlefield, because that's how important it is. This could be the start of something big.
I like Jon, I just don't think he understands there are a lot of worse Hawkeye fans out there.
I saw two idiot Iowa students try to start a fight with two Minnesota fans that were walking down the street after a game. These guys wanted to mind their own business but these students were saying some of the most rude things to these Minnesota guy's and their families.
2002: My brother and his roommate went to Iowa City. This is the game where Brad Banks fumbled it a few times and Seneca took over. Well their whole day was being harrassed by Hawk fans and it started before they could even get out of the car. Someone threw a beer bottle at their car because it had ISU plates and this was before they even got parked. Then they witnessed little kids and edlerly people being cursed at if they were wearing ISU stuff. Then at the game they had seats surrrounded by Hawk fans, every time Iowa scored they got pushed and shoved around. Keep in mind these 2 guys never said a word to provoke any of this. Finally when Iowa started choking the game away they were left alone and the best someone could do was "Seneca Wallace is not THAT good!" They finally thought it was time to say something and told the lady to look at the scoreboard and all the passing yards he piled up and realize how stupid that comment was. They were just glad to find that their car was left alone when they got back to the parking lot.
So yes, there are idiot Hawk fans too Jon. Can't say I've ever witnessed this kind of behavior in Ames but I'm sure there are similar stories about our fans as well. A rivalry brings out the best and worst in some fans.
