Shocker - Iowa Offense Contained in Ames
I just posted my analysis up on my blog of the matchups between the ISU defense and Iowa offense. While on paper the match up vs. Iowa's defense is scary, I think we match up pretty well with there offense. Expect some of the "shine" to come of the Hawkeye fans season expectations Saturday. Re: Shocker - Iowa Offense Contained in Ames
I don't see us having any issue running against their puny defensive line as long as our line blocks as well as it has so far. Didn't we have roughly 200 yards on the ground against this same defense with a bigger but much much slower offensive line and running back last year? As long as we run the ball creatively and Meyer stays as calm as a cucumber we will be fine. Look for Bass to have 75-100 yards, Robinson 50 yards and Meyer 50 yards as long as he runs vertical and the team does not get away from the run. The use of the big fullback to lay some nasty licks on the LBs would be great too. I am much more concerned about getting a solid passing game going and eliminating all turnovers!
Bold prediction: If we have no more than one turnover and Bass rushes for more than 200 yards, we will win by at least 3 touchdowns.
It completely puzzles me why the outcome of this game is simply based on the last two games each team has played. We can learn from those games but this game is played in the future on a field and not on paper in the past.

Not sure where you get there defensive line is puny....far from truth....but love the passion and confidence
Re: Shocker - Iowa Offense Contained in Ames
king and iwebema were far from 100% last year when we played them. King is a stud. My main concern is our defensive line. It has looked terrible so far this year.
Re: Shocker - Iowa Offense Contained in Ames
Young and Sims may just rush for 5,000 yards on Saturday. Their offensive line looked really good against similar opponents as us, and our defensive line sucks.
Re: Shocker - Iowa Offense Contained in Ames
we have to stop the run first and foremost and I actually believe because iowa is not a flashy team when it comes to that, we CAN stop it...then the hard thing becomes getting pressure on the QB...I think iowa qb #6 will give up the ball through sack + fumbles or throw picks under pressure, but the fact is we are going to have to bring some guys, bcuz our d-line just doesn't seem to be cutting it.
Offensively - WE HAVE TO STRIKE EARLY, no more waiting until late 3rd quarter/4th quarter to decide HEY, we CAN move the ball...We just need to go out and play football, leave it all on the field and hope that the little battles we win throughout the game end up being the difference on the scoreboard between winning and losing.

The one thing I noticed about Arnaud is he at least seemed to be looking through his progression and hit every receiver in the hands in his series versus UNI.
I hope he gets more snaps.
Re: Shocker - Iowa Offense Contained in Ames
He did miss on one pass, on his incompletion, (the one fans were clamboring for a interference flag) the ball was thrown behind the receiver, which actually made it look by interference as the receiver turned back.

Just remember (and I realize that they've played similar teams as we have) that after two games they're defense is 6th overall and 2nd against the run... they're doing something right, currently.

Yes they are doing something right, their first 3 games are against 3 of the Top 10 in ESPN's Bottom 10.

We CAN slow down Iowa as long as our freaking defense isn't on the field the entire game. Look at the Kent and UNI tapes, especially Kent in the first halves. The defense wasn't that bad but they wear out because our offense sucks so bad!
This game will be decided on whether io not can move the ball and eat up clock and score some TD's.

Agree, Iowa's offense is not scary. I think it is less about consistently moving the ball on offense, than it is avoiding 3 & outs and turnovers. We can't put our defense in bad posistions as we have been doing. If we can do that I think our defense will really surprise Saturday
