Throwback jersey saga..Earle Bruce

Iowa State wore the throwback jerseys we saw Saturday for three years. This was during the Earle Bruce coaching tenure.

1976: Iowa State went 8-3, and was the 18th ranked team in the nation at the end of the season, with the three loses to the #1,#2 and #3 ranked teams in the nation. We beat Nebraska that year, but did not receive any bowl bid.

1977: Iowa State went 8-4 and went to the Peach Bowl, losing a close game. We beat national power Nebraska again.

1978: Iowa State went 8-4 and went to the Hall of Fame Bowl

In that period, bowl bids were VERY hard to get, but Iowa State had gained a national reputation and had broken through as THE football power in the state and a force nationally.

IS THERE A LITTLE MAGIC IN THOSE UNIFORMS?

Re: Throwback jersey saga..Earle Bruce - update

It was 1971 when we lost to the #1, #2, and #3 teams in the country. In 1976, we lost to Oklahoma at home, I think it was 24-10. I think the other two losses were to Colorado and Okie State.

Pollard said tonight that the new uni's were based on the peach bowl ones, so they will look similar. It's hard to say how they will look in just a drawing like what is on the website.

How can we get him to change his mind? Washington Redskins stripes and white helmets are not based on the Peach Bowl duds, in my opinion.

JOIN THE NATIONAL CYCLONE CLUB!
“If we truly want to do this, this is the time to step up. Iowa State University has 175,000 living alumni. If one-of-every-10 living alumni joined the National Cyclone Club at the minimum level of $100, we could finance $30 million worth of construction." Jamie Pollard

I remember that now...and I stand corrected. You are right on that.
Thanks,

Re: Throwback jersey saga..Earle Bruce

Is it possible JP is having second thoughts after seeing the way we performed on Saturday and the amount of feedback about how we LOVE those unis and want to see them permanently? I mean, nothing's set in stone yet. BTW, I certainly wouldn't mind the new font and numbers on the throwback unis- that'd be a pretty good compromise, especially if we do use the new I-State logo (on a gold helmet, of course)

Helser-Woodrow (-61|122)
Roberts-Harriman (-74|133)

Hey can someone change that on Wikipedia? Anyone can edit the code. I make updates on there sometimes.

anyone else think pollardini might be pulling another fast one? maybe he already planned on using the throwbacks permanently? it would kinda make sense in that you could use these duds and still keep the current logo in other areas. ya never know w/ this guy and i love it!! so far hes batting 1.000 so i trust we will def. look sharp whatever they choose!!!

Was there anything official about using the I-State logo on the helmets? Some people here seem to be assuming that, but I missed it.
