Post Pollard and Coaches Provide Tailgate Breakfasts

Pollard and Coaches Provide Tailgate Breakfasts

AMES, Iowa -- Iowa State athletics director Jamie Pollard, Cyclone men's basketball coach Greg McDermott, head women's basketball coach Bill Fennelly and wrestling head coach Cael Sanderson were up early -- real early. The ISU quartet joined thousands of Cyclone fans and yes, a few Hawks Saturday before the sun was up in the student tailgate areas near Jack Trice Stadium. The group of Iowa State athletics leaders passed out McDonalds' breakfasts and coveted hot coffee to students groups that had started tailgating for Saturday's football game between Iowa State and Iowa before 4:30 a.m. The breakfasts were made available by former Iowa State placekicker Ty Stewart. The Hy-Vee Cy-Hawk Series game starts at 12:30 p.m.

"It was great mixing with the fans," Sanderson said. "They consumed all the food. We are grateful that Ty Stewart was willing to do this."

The Cyclone group spent nearly an hour going through the tailgate area, talking to fans and handing out the McDonald's meals. Fans had arrived in RV's, rebuilt old school buses, cars, jeeps, campers and top-of-the-line luxury buses. Some fans even had satellite dishes to watch a wide variety of games from across the country.

Cool stuff. Combine this with JP and GM handing out candy while helping freshman move in...I love the interaction they have with fans.

Side note: What time did the lots actually open last Saturday? We got to Ames about 5:45 and there were already lots of people tailgating.

When Chuck Norris goes to sleep, he checks under the bed for Jamie Pollard.

sorry... couldn't resist.

Somebody brought this up on the call-in show last night. Asked if it'll be a regular occurence.

JP said that if it had anything to do with the outcome of the game, he'll be out there every week.

Also said that he owed a big thank you to McDonalds who doled out 2000 sandwiches. That's alot of cookin'

We got a knock at the window at 4am they were going to start filling the student lot. We showed up at 11pm Friday night and there were already hundreds of vehicles lined up. The traffic people told us the first people showed up around 1pm!

The breakfasts were made available by former Iowa State placekicker Ty Stewart.
So am I to beleive that

1. Ty Stewart works at Mcdonalds now and failed to make anything out of his life. or
2. Ty Stewart makes a lot more money than the rest of us.
3. Ty Stewart gave Brett Culbertson a pep talk before the game.
