Yup, time for the MBB season ticket counter.
The goal is 10,000, already at 8,821.
Let the "does this include student tickets" questions fly and the constant following of the numbers begin. | |

I know capacity is around 14K give or take, but how many have to be held back for single-game sales? Also, can I buy a single game ticket to the Iowa game?

I would think you'll be able to buy basketball single game tickets. I really don't think that's part of the plan. I bet something like 12 or 13k would be the max you could sell, however, I don't think we'll be close to that. 10k is a great goal and we were pretty close to that last year I thought. I hope with the increased excitement and expectations around the program we can always eclipse 10k.

I think we hit 9,9?? last year so 10,000 should be an easy hit.

Always being one to look ahead and ignore the present, I'll be really excited to see what happens in years 3 and 4 of the McDermott era. Usually that's when you see the big jumps made. I'd love to see a 00-01 like team then, with season ticket sellouts. Then McDermott would only need to lay off the Natty Light and we'd be golden.

I would say the most season seats we can sell is like 13500. 500 for promotions, recruits, etc. Other than that, sell em all, if there are no single game tickets available, so be it. Or is there a reserve for visiting team?

Here's another MBB ticket related question:
How much money does MBB generate towards the Master Plan? I realize not as much as FB, not even close, but would selling 11K season tix do much more than pay for a few bags of quikcrete?

The generate significant/seat revenue.
It will cost you a minumum $2,500 donation to get Parquet seats (non-staff), and each season ticket runs about $500. So, for 4 seats, you are getting at lest $4,500/$5,000.
At this point there are still several sitting in Parquet that are still donaing at lower levels (when they bought their tickets the donation level was lower, or some with no donation). And, there is a waiting list of $2,500 donors who want to move lower.
That is why they are reindexing next year. Also, that is why the suites are going in (14 if I remember correctly). After these steps are completed, then there will be even more significant revenues.
Per seat basketball generates a good deal of revenue on the season

Pollard spoke briefly about this subject on M&M yesterday. He said that we are more of a "have" in basketball (as opposed to a "have-not" in football) and he didn't foresee a similar situation for basketball.

As you said, it's not nearly as big a moneymaker as football - however, it is one of 2 revenue generating sports. Anything helps. According to the NCAA financial reports database we made about 3 million from the basketball program in I think... 2005. I'm sure we'll take that.

At least we can pay off McCarney and maybe Wayne Morgan with that cash.
