ISU Offense vs. Toledo Defense
OK, I know that most people based on the first three games Toledo has played think ISU will hang 50 on Rockets. The Cyclones may indeed and no one will be happier than me, but there are three big reasons why the defense ISU faces may be much different than the one faced by Purdue, Central Michigan and Kansas.
I just finished writing up my analysis of the matchup between the ISU offense and the Toledo defense. On one hand you have an offense averaging 14 points a game facing a defense giving up nearly 50. Common sense would seem to say this the game ISU's offense finally gets on track. Believe it or not Toledo's coaches are encouraged about their defense after the Kansas game. There are a lot of questions for ISU including will we finally have a break out passing game? Will we start scoring touchdowns? Will Austen get several series?
Take a read at my assessment and let me know what you think. Link to Blog

Excellent write up, as always. I did not know Toledo has starters in the secondary out -- figures why their defense has been horrid up to this point. I really never thought from the start that we'd put up 40+ points on Toledo, but I still think we'll pull out with a 24-21 win.

Re: ISU Offense vs. Toledo Defense
I listened to the KU game and the passing appeared to do Toledo in.
Parmalee seemed to be stuffed in the second quarter.
We should be able to score more than 15.

Thanks, I am hoping that it won't be that close, I will tell you more after I do the analysis and writeup on the ISU defense vs. their offense (Wednesday) and Special Teams (Thursday)

Re: ISU Offense vs. Toledo Defense
I'll be happy if we can just score a few TDs. KU has a much better offense than we do and they only scored 45 this week. We should try to open up the passing game as much as we can as Blythe and Sumrall both have the ability to destroy these guys deep.

Re: ISU Offense vs. Toledo Defense
Kansas also had multiple turnovers that prevented some points, but Kansas had more offensive yards than any team thus far on Toledo

Couple other interesting stats from Sporting News
"They've given up 20 touchdowns, the most in the country, and the Rockets are one of only nine teams to allow opponents to average more than 500 yards a game"
"Among BCS teams, only Syracuse and Notre Dame have scored less than the Cyclones, who are averaging 14 points a game"
Should be fun to watch how this one plays out.

Re: ISU Offense vs. Toledo Defense
One of the big this that could swing this game is if Toledo gets back all their injured senior defenders. On one of the Toledo boards they posted the following....
Greg Hay will play this weekend after getting hurt against Kansas and missing the rest of the game.
Most likely still out on defense are:
DE Sean Williamson
DE Douglas Westbrook
CB Nigel Morris
CB Greg Harris
CB Desmond Marrow
FS Tyrrell Herbert
Can't speak for the accuracy of their insights, but it would be a nice to have our offense face a defense that they can get some confidence and work out the kinks to get into the endzone

Latest word from the web is that all but Williamson are game time decisions.
