Thoughts on the "Tuba"
This from the Ames Tribune:
This is the one quote from Mac that stood out to me though...
"You just hope some day he can play like he looks," McCarney said. "He's 320 pounds, legitimate. He's strong, he's not real overweight; he's just a big, thick, strong athlete, but he's in horrible shape right now."
Yikes! How long do you suppose it takes a 320 lb. D-lineman to get in football shape? Wasn't the kid working out this summer? I really hope he can make a solid contribution this fall...
I think he was mostly working in the classroom trying to make sure he got to Iowa State. I think Mac and Nelly will have him going by the Iowa game!
Not being in shape probably means that he'll only stay in for one to two plays at a time and then come out for two to three. They probably need 8-12 weeks to get him into the shape they really want him at. I just hope that by bad shape they mean bad stamina and not weaker than expected.
Yeah...I'm guessing he'll be a first/second down guy and in on third-and-shorts. In obvious passing situations, we'll likely see one of the smaller, quicker guys come in.
