Re: Taking a knee to go into half
I think things that aren't being taken into consideration are time, field position, and arm strength. The KSU game, if I remember correctly, we were at midfield with 5 seconds left in the half. That would mean a 60 yard hail mary if we were to go for it, and with 5 seconds left that thing's gotta be in the end zone. Based on what we've all seen from Meyer his entire career, anyone else think Meyer's capable of throwing the ball 60+ yards? Against Northern Iowa, the offense was continuously shooting itself in the foot. They were incapable of doing ANYTHING right. I'm not sure I would have trusted the offense at that time to try to pull a 30-second drive without dire consequences. We needed to get into that locker room and make adjustments. Against Iowa in the 2nd quarter we were facing a stiff wind - difficult to go downfield with the pass and not exactly ideal conditions to try to put together a 30 second drive. There are more things to consider than "well, geez, we have 20 seconds on the clock, why the hell aren't we trying to do something with it?" At this point in time I just don't see our offense as capable of pulling something off like that.
If Chizik found himself at the opponent's 35-40 yard line with about 30 seconds remaining I'm pretty sure he'd go for it in that situation.
Re: Taking a knee to go into half
Guys who have coached or played football beyond HS understand the kneel down.
Guys who sit behind their computers wanting 'more points' dont.
Re: Taking a knee to go into half
Sometimes taking a knee before the half is warranted, other times not. And, it's not just based on if you're ahead at the moment or not.
I trust the coaches to know the pulse of the team and the flow of the game in order to make that decision, better than I can.

That is how Coach Fran works, play not to lose. Works everytime too, he loses.
