Two arrested in noose incident near Jena, Louisiana

Re: Two arrested in noose incident near Jena, Louisiana
I probably don't know the full story, but I would like to know why there is a nationwide protest about the 6 blacks who beat up one white person. I would say 6 beating up one should get somebody in trouble and I don't care what spectrum of colors are involved. There was even a gathering here in Des Moines.
Sometimes I wonder what my kids are going to have to deal with as they become adults.

Sometimes I wonder what my kids are going to have to deal with as they become adults. The story started on August 31, when some black highschool students sat under a tree where white students usually sit during lunch. The next morning there were nooses hanging from the tree. Since then there has been back and forth outbursts of violence between black and white kids at the highschool. No charges were filed on the noose incident, or other incidence of violance, until the 6 black kids were charged with attempted murder for beating up a white kid. These 6 clearly committed a crime, but the issue is if the law is being applied equally.

The problem is with the severity of the charges (at least one of the students is being charged with attempted murder) and the fact that, according to some, not all six were invovled in the beating.
It's an ugly situation no matter how you look at it.

None of us know the full story. But I will say this - if 6 white kids beat up 1 black kid, regardless of the situation, there would be public outcries - especially from the likes of Sharpton.
It's disgusting what these kids did though - both sides. That school really needs to gain some control.

I say, bring in Denzel Washington to coach their school's football team.
That should solve all of the crap happening at this school.

The protest in Des Moines was just so the normal Camera chasers can get on t.v. again. Abdul Samaad I think is his name. He is the guy that looks like he should have been on the t.v. show OZ on HBO. Could have been friends with Adabese. So yeah I agree 6 people beating the hell out of one should get the 6 in trouble for something.
Also I am totally against hangin a Noose in a tree. It's just flat out racist and wrong. However it should not be more than a littering ticket in the United States. Freedome goes down the tubes if you charge somebody for doing something like that.

There are laws in this country against hate crimes - specifically those intended to instill fear into a specific population. That's why those that decide to burn crosses in a black person's yard will usually be charged with more than just "littering." Those nooses fall under that category and in most places they would have been treated the same as if they had been burning crosses.

Sometimes I wonder what my kids are going to have to deal with as they become adults. Because there are double standards in our society, if it were 6 white kids that beat up a black kid, it would be attempted murder, hate crimes, terrorism. They would spend 30 years in jail and there would be protests when they were let out.
Basically if you are anything other than a white male, you are treated better by our legal/ethical system, it is disgusting.

I cant believe this crap still exists. It will never end either because these people teach it to their kids and so on. Ugh.

You know what is interesting though. They have a WHOLE different mentality in the south then we do up here. My sister-in-law and family moved down to Mississippi for a year and a half and the stories they have told me is quite enlightening. Apparently, the "N" word is normal slang down there. They were signing their kids up for school and they asked the school employee about how the school was in comparison with others and the lady says "this is a very good school, you see we don't have as much "n word"'s here and that helps". Really made them feel uncomfortable because there was a black person sweeping behind them. Add in the fact that the pastor of the church they went to used that word quite often and said they had better ones there in Mississippi because "they know their place".
Down there it's normal to talk like that, up here you talk like that and 75% of the people who hear you will call you out on it,,,,,and justifiably so. Needless to say, they are back up here living now and I have even more reason not to move south.

Re: Two arrested in noose incident near Jena, Louisiana
There is alot of doublestandards and rediculous things you can get away with in this country. For instance...Pee Wee Herman getting into a heck of alot of trouble for pleasuring himself at an adult movie theater but Tommy Lee has sex with some chick on the table of a public 5 star restaraunt and nothing happened. This crap is regional and laws are only good if everyone participates. It amazes me really that crime isnt worse than it is.
