Is Chizik the Man?

It has been an interesting eight days hasn't it? From the euphoria and Shaggy being fit for a gold hall of fame jacket to the pain of Saturday night. Cyclone fans across the country have been asking what is different, has any thing changed, is Chizik the man for the job? All this conversation got me thinking and so I put my thoughts on these questions together in my blog.

It's his 4th game ever...EVER! I think if there were people saying give mccarney more time after 12 years we should at least give Chizik a 5th game or so, don't ya think?

No fire him immediately. He is a crook. Let's hire someone else.

The scent of sarcasm is a nasty cologne on a message board...

you've resorted to controversial teasers to promote readership? JCloned you're better than that.

Well, I'm very glad I took the time to read his article. It was very well-written and puts things in perspective. The way the fans react will have a great bearing on how this football program does. If we bring only 35K to the stadium in the last month of the season, it will certainly impact our recruiting in a negative way.

I fully expected us to be 4-0 going into lincoln and for GC to lead us to the big 12 title game this year, especially with the veteran defense and offensive line coming back... I'm sure it was super easy for the players to pick up the new system as well, and erase any lingering doubts about transitioning from the previous coaching regime to the new one....

mmm mmm that cologne is rampant!

I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around the banks will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered.

Thomas Jefferson, 1802

People are already sounding like damn Hawk fans. Did we not learn that PATIENCE is the key??? Ferentz started out 4-19 in his first 2 seasons and I'd say the Hawks went to some pretty decent bowl games after that didn't they? It's going to take till year 3 or 4 for GC to get this program on track and we just need to keep up the support and give the man some time.

Sorry if it seems that way. What I wrote this week is in response to overhearing that very discussion. For full disclosure I will say that I think the fact that the question is even being asked and the focus on what's wrong with the coaching and coaching issues etc. is completely ridiculous.

Again, apologize if my headline stirred the pot in a bad, way, but I really wanted to get the attention and the read of those who may be thiniking that way.

Yes, Chizik is the man!

As for the post above...I certainly hope we are not using Ferentz as a comparison in a few years. Ferentz is an overpaid mediocre coach...period! I am expecting more from Chizik.

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes.

Re: Is Chizik the Man?

While Ferentz was a good model for building the program he has not been able to sustain excellece. Some of my hawk friends and yes I admit it I have a few, would suggest he merely built it to a mediocre level and then had a couple overachieving teams, but does not have the staff and approach to do it consitently or advance.

Many of KF recruits from Illinois will now go to Illinois. he will be looking west for recruits more often.

Reading your article, I expected to win Kent State and UNI, lose to iowa, and beat Toledo, and then lose rest of the way. After watching the past four weeks, 1-11 is probable unless we make major strides.

That said, the schedule dictates that we have until 3/10 Nov to win a second game at this point. Kansas State and Colorado appear to be the weakest sisters.

EIU is the other Okoboji University for serious students and home of Captain Kirk who pilots the Enterprise on its Trek through the Universe for finding his next great job. Captain, beware of your Superbowl.
