Milton Bradley Tears ACL in Outburst Against Ump

ESPN - Stark: Three-team race for NL wild card - MLB

Just a fine example that blowing your top solves nothing.

For those of you who didn't see it last night, you can watch it in the link.

Bradley just went off on a umpire, and in his manager's attempt to hold him back, he managed to plant funny on his right knee, tearing his ACL and now he is out for the season.

I saw that earlier - I'm not sure what I think of the issue. Seems like an ump was trying (consciously or not) to get under the skin of a player.

Unfortunately, the player let him.

Regardless, couldn't happen to a nicer guy. Bradley has always been an absolute punk, and while I don't want to see anybody get injured... I really could care less what happens to the guy.

The only thing I know about Milton Bradley is they make games.

So...what's the history with Milton Bradley, the baseball player? From the interview I could gather he's had some issues in the past, is aware of them and is trying to redefine his image. What's he been up to in the past?

Re: Milton Bradley Tears ACL in Outburst Against Ump

He's a solid player, but he's been a locker room cancer pretty much everywhere he's been and he's been traded a ton of times because of it. Basically an all-around jerk.

While what BryceC said was accurate, that doesn't give the umpire the right to do what he did if you are to believe the allegations. Sounds like that umpire is just as much of a ***** as Bradley is perceived to be.

Bradley actually did a great job at showing restraint untill the umpire started to swear him up and down. He was baited, plain and simple. Pretty sure that will be the last game you see that umpire do this year.

How do know that Bradley was baited??? We're you privy to the conversation???

Bradley has had an atrocious mouth and a confrontational on-field attitude towards opposing players, his teamates, and umps for his entire career. I'd say it's more probable that he was running his mouth again and hissed-off the ump. He's another Gary Sheffield...nothing is ever his fault...

As a Dodger fan, I remember numerous times he was, for lack of a better word, a jerk. He actually threw a plastic bottle that was near him on the field back in to the stands at some people giving him a hard time. Throw in a few tantrums where he takes an entire bucket of baseballs and throws them on to the field, and you have Milton's past in a nutshell. He's supposedly taken anger management classes, but he still blows up like this. Most Dodger fans have zero time for him. Include me in that group.

Re: Milton Bradley Tears ACL in Outburst Against Ump

I wasn't there but the first base coach, fans in the stands, and even Rockies players have all said it was the worst case of baiting a player they have ever seen.

Bradley got to bat and the home plate ump asked Bradley if he threw his bat at him, Bradley said there is no way he would do that as he is trying to clean up his act. The home plate ump told him that the other umpires said he did... Bradley got a hit and asked the first base ump if he told the home plate ump he threw his bat at him, the first base ump said I did, because you did. Bradley asked why he thought that and the first base ump replied with a chorus of swear words that set Bradley off.

You can judge Milton on what you have read, but in the last few years with the Dodgers, A's, and Padres he hasn't been that bad. About the only 'teammate' he has had run ins with is Jeff Kent and I think we can all agree that he is far from a model teammate. My brother, who played with Milton, even said that he was a great teammate and would do anything for anyone... Think what you want, but this was just another display of an official on a power trip (joey crawford?)...

Both parties acted childesh, but Bradley can blame himself for teh ACL tear due to the way he handled it. He could have gotten his point across many different ways.

I don't care if he was baited... I've seen 12 year old children that wouldn't act like that. Wow, childish is about the only word that I can think of.

MLB umpires are the biggest joke in sports. There is no punishment against them, so when they make a bad call, it doesn't affect them. What Mike Winters did yesterday was a complete joke and if I were Bud Selig, I would fire him.

Re: Milton Bradley Tears ACL in Outburst Against Ump

I want to know where he threw the bat at the ump because in that video I don't see it. And he was baited into that tirade by the ump. Yes he could have shown some restraint but the umps have pretty much had free reign to do/say what they want without reprimand lately. Ump should have just kept his mouth shut. Will be interesting to see if Todd Helton backs up the story.
