Anyone do Martial Arts
I have pondered getting back into this, but it has been some time and my goals are different. I just wanted to know if anyone out there does any, what style, and your reactions of it.

Re: Anyone do Martial Arts
My son did Tae Kwon Do for about a year, then got bored with it. He was up to high green belt. My brother in law and two nieces are black belts. It certainly shows in my nieces with their confidence levels. -
Re: Anyone do Martial Arts
Scotland has its own martial arts. Yeah, it's called ---- You. It's mostly just head butting and then kicking people when they're on the ground.

I'm a devoted practicioner of shaolin kung fu and tai chi. It is perhaps the most complete martial art out there I think in terms of the variety of martial aspects we practice.. but I may be a bit biased. I took taekwondo for 2 yrs as a teen, and hapkido @ ISU on and off for 4 years. For me, shaolin blows them away, although I truly believe different styles suit different individuals.
I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around the banks will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered. I'm training to be a cagefighter through the study of Rex Kwan Do... You think anybody messes with me in these pants?

Hey, I took 2 years of Hapkido at ISU as well. I assume it was Master Pak for you as well. He is hard core. I almost passed out in that old wrestling room a few times in the summer. There would sweat puddles on the pads. He ran that place military style. Always wanted to make sure you had your cup on. He was a former Korean secret service instructor. For those of you in Ames, you have access to one of the best instructors in the country for a relatively low fee. ISU Hapkido Club
Guitar, Judo and Hapkido are more like wrestling that some of the others. That is why I liked it. From a self defense standpoint, watch any fight, and you'll see that rarely do they stay as a punching or kicking match. They almost always end up as a wrestling match. It was also great physical activity.

Did you get that from So I Married an Axe Murderer?

Re: Anyone do Martial Arts
I was in tae kwon do as a kid growing up and then joined the ISU tae kwon do club as well for a little while. I am currently a first degree black belt though it has been a while lol. But I really enjoyed it, but I think if I were to get back into martial arts I would give Hapkido a try

I am a cagefighter as well. Put me and my wife in a cage and we end up fighting. If you mean by cage my bedroom and by fighter you mean getting it on.

Re: Anyone do Martial Arts
right on CyinCo!! Master Pak is great... hapkido was a fantastic stress relief and a ton of fun, but I do have some issues looking back with how the class was taught.

I got to 1st deg black belt back in middle school. I dont remember any of it. I think I would take something that requires more endurance and speed at this point.

Well this kind of sounds like me. I took tae kawn do for a few years at got up to brown belt, but decided that as an 8 year old, I had other things to do, so I quit. about 20 years later, I think I am ready to do it again, only this time its not about the combat, but more of the mental aspect of it all. I am interested in Tai Chi as it seems very focused, but relaxing as well. The grace and fluidity of it is just awesome. I have heard its hard thought because of the level of meditation involved.
Any thoughts, recommendations?

Pak's way of teaching, I believe, turned a lot of people off. There wasn't much in the way of verbal direction. He would show you, and then you would do it over and over again. He obviously had his class favorites as well.
