The word on the street is that a few HD channels will go live Wednesday morning. These additional HD channels are using the new D10 satellite that Directv launched a few months back.

I wonder, are these regular channels converting to HD? Right now I can get ESPN on 206 or 70something - the latter being in HD.

Are there going to be duplicates for all these new ones?

Nooo!!! If these are launched I have to get all new receivers. Ugh! At least there are no boobie channels in HD, or I would have to be at best buy tonight getting an HR20.

Dish bought voom a long time ago and has been light years ahead of DTV for a long time. But DTV has bigger pockets and can afford the costs of adding all these new channels better than dish.

Here is what I've heard and I don;t know if this will be immediate.

For channels like ESPN HD which run the same programing as the SD version then there will soon just be one channel on your guide. When you turn to it, it will default to HD.

For channels like Discovery HD that run different programming than their SD channel there will still be two channels.

I keep getting Mediacom to lower our package price while giving us more features otherwise I'd jump to DTV again once we move next month. Right now we get Mediacom's expanded digital service, HD DVR, HD package, HBO & Starz packages and cable internet for $80/mo. If I wasn't already getting such a good deal, I'd jump right now.
