Is our AD great or what? (helmet explanation)

Here's a response I received SEVEN minutes after sending him an e-mail about the new uniforms:

Thanks Ray. That is why we originally wanted the white helmets. But in the end, that issue had less of an impact as it would have had if we went with white pants to match a white helmet. Sometimes it is about tradeoffs. On the actual helmet (in person), it doesn't blend as much as one would think. In fact, the State part really jumps out which is what we wanted to really highlight.

Jamie,

Great new uniforms! My only concern is that a cardinal-colored “I” against a cardinal-colored helmet may get lost and be tough to see and/or make-out (this was one of my issues with the previous helmet) – perhaps a thicker gold outline around the “I” would help distinguish it.

Why do we need white pants if we have a white helmet? We've seen some CF mockups that looked nice without it..

It's the tri-color thing that some people seem to think is an issue. We have to be color coordinated I guess. Tri-coloring is a fashion a no-no according to some.

I've read several of those types of complaints, yet the irony is that we wear a white color for road games. I think the AD had it right with the white helmet.

Too bad they opened the whole process to the masses. You're never going to get a consensus of opinions on this type of issue. I wish JP would have trusted his original instincts and went with the original helmet designs. People would have adjusted.

I've been looking at the home unis and trying to imagine what the cardinal jersey, gold pants would look like w/ a white helmet. Not really digging that look. I think the cardinal helmet is still heads and tails better than the white.

I don't know how practical it would be (would've been, too late now) but I kind of liked Ned's logo in that "New Uniform" thread. The one where he took the logo, put it on a white, oval background. You would have to make the I-State considerably smaller, which might make it impractical right there. But I thought the look would be nice and you could keep the cardinal the same between the "I" and the rest of the helmet. Not liking the two shades of cardinal - but it is all you can do with this design.

Ah well, tons better than what we've had and it'll work just fine as-is.

And we will change again at some point in the future...it is inevitable

For all the nit-picking over the helmet, logo, and otherstuff.....they are a major upgrade over the present uniforms

How about a white helmet with red shirt and yellow pants, or
a yellow helmet with red pants and white shirt,
or red helmet with.............I can't take anymore....it's over.

This is similar to what our home unis would look like with a cardinal jersey, gold pants and a white helmet. Welcome to Marion Indian Football

I don't think it looks bad, but it might be because I went to high school at Marion and we've had white helmets for as long as I can remember.

There are also pictures with cardinal jersey and pants with a white helmet, cardinal pants with white jerseys and pants, and white jersey, pants and helmet at Welcome to Marion Indian Football

I'm not sure why I'm in the minority, but I LOVE our current logo. I also like the cardinal from head to toe when the colors match. I can dig the new unis, but I loved and will always love the current logo. I thought it was brilliant how we took our original mascot, the cardinal and mingled it with the post 1920, or whenever it was, change to the Cyclones after the Chicago paper wrote how Iowa State College came in like a Cyclone... yadayada. I think it looks great at center court and mid-field. I'm sure I'll grow to love the new one as well.

My biggest issue with this logo is how does it represent IOWA State when you just see I? I know it's been brought up before. I get the single logo for everything, that makes sense. I get that it will be represented as IOWA STATE on the jersey, for football... I wonder how they will make the BB uniforms work.

Well, awesome jerseys for a high school team. I am from Sac City and we were the Indians also with the same logo and helmet for the most part.

I have a feeling our gold is going to be more gold but the cardinal looks dead on almost. I don't like the white helmets personally. We had about the same color scheme except we did the red on red with white helmets. The white looks too weak.

I have to give two thumps up for Pollard. He did a great job. Not everyone was going to like it but 75% does.

He said they originally wanted a white helmet because the logo stands out so well...but after they got lots of poor feedback from fans, they went and reserached which teams in BCS conferences where white helmets, and in almost EVERY case, the teams that wear white helmets, also wear white pants. They did their reserach, that was nice...think about it...

Texas, Penn St, Auburn, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Stanford, South Carolina, Tennessee, etc

I can see a slight argument for gold helmets but I'm guessing the gold is hard to match on a helmt and Nike probably advised them of that.
