Big XII TV Contract Email to JP

Below is an email I wrote to Mr. Pollard last night. I haven't heard back from him yet, which is unusual, but it was a Friday night.

Hi Mr. Pollard

Let me first say thank you for your had work and dedication to making Iowa State a better athletic department. It's fun being a Cyclone fan knowing you are behind the scenes doing everything you can to make us better. Thank your for that.

On a different note, I know you get bombarded with emails regarding the Big 12 TV package. I have seen the pdf file that explains in detail our TV deal and I have a good understanding of how the money for the deal is structured. I know in terms of finances it is not always how much you are ON TV, but how much your school makes because the Big 12 games are ON TV.

I am very frustrated as most Cyclone fans are. I could care less about our home games being on TV...I am sitting in Jack Trice so who cares! But we're the Big 12 Conference!...can't we do better in the future?

I have DirecTV and here is a sample list of the games I can watch WITHOUT ESPN game plan or spending any extra money....This doesn't include the Big Ten Networks games (because we all know they have the best deal), nor does it include games with programs like LSU, etc.

Akron @ UConn, Air Force @ Navy, Villanova @ James Madison, Kent St. @ Ohio, UC Davis @ San Jose St., Idaho St @ Montana St., Florida A&M @ Tennessee St., UTEP @ SMU, Stony Brook @ Hofstra, BYU @ New Mexico, Cincinnati @ San Diego St., Southern @ Alabama St.

Doesn't this startle you? We can't even watch ISU @ Nebraska? I know ISU doesn't have the richest FB tradition, but this is Nebraska? No PPV, no TV, no nothing? UNI @ Drake was on TV...wow!

Like I said, I know the Big 12 TV deal is in the top 3 MONEY wise. But as a consumer, this is ridiculous. I'm a consumer, I'm a fan, and as both, this is beginning to get old...ya know?

I hope if enough fans continue to let J.P. know how disappointed and frustrated we are with our current Big 12 TV package, he will realize that while we need it for the money, there also needs to be changes in the contract in order to make it easier for us to be picked up.

Just for comparison. ALL big10 games today are availble to me. Plus a good portion of them are in HD.

I am watching the Iowa game right now, because it is on TV.

True, but he can try to do something to get games like this on TV for the future. Whether we are 4-0 or 1-3.

No, that is not the point. Jamie DOES have control over what is on TV. He is our representitive for to the big12. We need him to do everything possible to generate equity in the conference so we do not have to keep having this conversation over and over and over for the next 20 years.

Well, I was mainly just talking about today.

I'm gonna be really pissed off if/when we end up with a Big 12 Network that Mediacom will refuse to pick up.
