Re: Brennen Cougill to Iowa
I think the weight comments are getting a little personal. He's not that big - and for his position, by the time he gets in college, I think he'll be plenty in shape.

That is until the Freshman 20 hits, or in his case the Freshman 50.
Just kidding As much as I love the debate about everybody talking up their players, which naturally happens, I don't think it's fair to call this kid a stud recruit. The kid didn't have offers from those schools you mention looking at him. Iowa really needs some size and this kid fits what they need. That doesn't mean he wouldn't have a spot on other teams but that also doesn't mean he'd start on other teams.
A program isn't built on one player and it doesn't succeed because of one player, thus a program won't fail if it doesn't get that one player. -
Re: Brennen Cougill to Iowa
Wow, not necessarily a weight comment, but he looks like I did before I got into football and wrestling shape in HS. Basically, looked fat as all hell, but could be athletic and kick @@@ if needed to. It's like looking into a historic mirror...

stole my thunder... he is a blake larson type
he is silky smooth at times but extremly soft. No mean streak or killer instinct at all, but if he turns the baby pudge into muscle he could be really good.

Re: Brennen Cougill to Iowa
If you look at hawk boards before he committed there were several people REALLY questioning his ability.
*sigh*
Some people never cease to amaze me.
"Squawk fans are saying that since they didn't get this guy, he wasn't any good, isn't BigTen talent, and the in state talent is weak."
Hello pot.
Hawk fans say this when ISU and Iowa have both offered a kid. We say this when ISU has not offered a kid and hasn't had any real interest. We have 1 scholarship to offer for 2009, we have 2 post recruits for 2008, hey would have been a plan J recruit. Call it what it is.
Edit: Would you say ISU "beat" Iowa for Vette? I'm not even sure Iowa offered him after his decommit and he pretty much came to ISU with the intention of getting on board. ISU signed Vette and that was that. You can't "beat" people for a recruit if they don't offer.

I don't know - but when I first signed up for this board, the whole Vette thing was going down, and I distinctly remember seeing several threads saying stuff like "Ha, Squawk fans are already saying that they didn't want him anymore anyway."
I'm too lazy to look those threads up, so I'll let that point die with just saying that.

I'm too lazy to look those threads up, so I'll let that point die with just saying that. I looked them up and SouthernHawk is correct. There was a couple posters here that did say that.
I was trying to prove you wrong and it backfired.

Re: Brennen Cougill to Iowa
Here's a couple of threads for you then - Scout.com: Iowa Forums List
Iowa fans all expressing a ton of interest in Vette, and some people claiming there was an Iowa offer.
Then Vette signs his LOI. Scout.com: Iowa Forums List
"I believe he is a 2-star recruit."
"The guy was going to Indiana St. originally, nothing to get too upset about..."
"I find something completely unimpressive about Vette. The guy just reeks of a fatter Sean Sonderlighter. He could tear up Iowa 3A, but get him against some guys his own size, and he has no prayer."
As far as Cougill goes, PsychedClone and other posters who have real insight and contacts in the basketball program said he was unlikely to get an offer from ISU. Things may have changed since then... but who knows. http://www.cyclonefanatic.com/forum/...tml#post150728 -
Re: Brennen Cougill to Iowa
I know Iowa fans were upset Iowa lost out on Vette - I was. I'm not sure what you're trying to prove to me? He's a good prospect. But Iowa was a long shot at best after Alford was out, and ISU nabbed him.
My point is that that this is the exact same thing that so many people on this board were bashing Iowa fans for doing. ISU offer or not - he's a good prospect, and Iowa got him over ISU - regardless of how likely ISU was to offer him.
The point is he was an in-state recruit, probably one of the best of the 2009 class, and it was a good pick up for the Hawks.
Case and point - he could either turn out to be a dud, or a "Big Baby" *LSU*

I'm too lazy to look those threads up, so I'll let that point die with just saying that. Now that Vette is mentioned I can say that I went the 3A championship game earlier this year to watch Cougill knowing he was a potential D1 player. Vette dominated the game and was the best player on the floor (this was before ISU was in the picture and I knew anything about him). Cougill did not impress at least for this one game, he has potential but has a long way to go.

Re: Brennen Cougill to Iowa
I think regardless of weather iowa or iowa state wanted him most people on this board including me felt he wasnt worth the scholarship in the first place. Im not bashing iowa or anything like that, im just saying we didnt think he was all that good right now and thats how we felt weather iowa offered him or not.

Re: Brennen Cougill to Iowa
Well, that is one last spot that Cowgils fills. Less Iowa recruits needed now.
