I heard from a number of people that Dan McCarney's name is all over the place in Huskerland as a potential replacement Defensive Coordinator at Nebraska. Apparently Sportstalk stations are pushing for Dan. My sources were simply Nebraska fans at the game and prior to the game that mentioned it to me. Anyone else hear this?
I think its a great idea.
They'll need help stopping the Clones in a few years and maybe Mac can help although I have my doubts.
I've gotta believe Mike Leach will be in contact with Mac, as well. His phone might actually ring this winter.
Dan is not good/great head coach material.
As an assistant - I think he's fantastic.
Dan knows Bill and Kevin quite well. Maybe Kevin can move to SF.
As everybody knows, Dan's a great coordinator. I know he wants to get back to being a head coach and it's just a matter of if he thinks staying at USF or going elsewhere would get him there sooner.

You also have former Minnesota coach Glen Mason looking. He has a better record than McCarney, but not the personality. I wonder if McCarney would want to come back that close to Iowa State for his next job? I would think it would be more comfortable for him in the South or East as a coordinator, or a head coach at a I-A school.
Ohh please no! Anywhere buy NU. I would have to cheer for them then. I would feel like I needed a shower after every game. I cannot cheer for NU, but I will always cheer for Dan.
Why would DMAC want to take a step down to Nebraska from USF? LOL
he is at a top 20 team right now coaching at USF...and let me remind you..South Florida is in...(get this)...SOUTHERN FLORIDA!!!! Who seriously wants to leave that for Nebraska (yuck) and Minnesota. He is DC at a really good program right now. I think he would wanna stay put. Although it would be comforting to see him in cardinal again. Maybe GC should bring him in at DC!
winters in lincoln vs. florida... hmmm.. ridiculously good talent pool in one's backyard (florida) vs. having to travel all across the US to bring them to lincoln.... I just don't see DMac in big red attire... this job he has now was something to pay the bills until a new head position opens up, no matter what we as fans thought of him as a head coach.
He is not DC at USF. He's D-Line coach and some other formal title. As much as I love Dan, I don't really think USF's success has anything to do with him.Quote:

Yet again, tonight on SoundOff, Keith referred to Mac as the DC at USF. Not sure why its so difficult for our local media to address his position correctly.
