You can sometimes buy a brand new printer for around the same prices as ink cartridges.

However, you should note that the ink cartridges that come with a brand new printer do not have as much ink as the replacement ink cartridges.

For instance, with HP printers, the black cartridge that comes with the printer might have 7.5ml of ink but the replacement cartridge might contain 30 ml. They don't sell the actual cartridge model that comes with the printer as a replacement. I really don't like this practice since it is pretty wasteful.

That is another way they can sell the new printers so cheap because they know you will be back buying replacement cartridges in the near future.

I refilled my black cartridge for a while, and it was pretty inexpensive and easy, but it seemed the risk of spilling the ink all over your house is high. I bought the refill kit on eBay.

I usually buy them brand new, Cheapest Printer Ink Cartridges has a good selection at cheaper prices than my retail store, some times I will do the refill thing but the cartridges are sometimes bad and they leak, so I rather just buy them new.
