Student Tickets

Yesterday at the open practice Pollard stated that we have not yet sold out student season tickets. Does anyone know how many of the 7,700 available have been sold so far. For as cheap as the student's can get the tickets, how can they not be sold out by now? Please tell me we that we are past the days of the tailgate only crowd. We need the students to get the Jack thumping!!

Nothing worthwhile is cheap. If you're waiting until you have "enough" money, life won't be much fun. It will always spend faster than you earn it. After (maybe while) you pay your school loans, there will be the mortgage, transportation, insurance, utilities, spouse, kids, etc, etc, ad infinitum. Spend wisely, but don't get caught up in it. I thought I heard that too. Why would they expand the student section if they were struggling selling the remaining student tickets earlier?

OK, checking back it looks like the student section was originally 7,000 and was raised to 7,700. So they either raised the amount prematurely, or they've already broken 7,000 and are now just trying to sell the remaining 700 or so. Does anyone have an official count of how many student tickets have been sold?

Until the other seats sell out as well I don't think anyone should be complaining about expanding the student section. If they artificially limit the number of student tickets available before regular tickets are sold out then everyone is being done a disservice as this would result in:
1. The Jack would be less packed.
2. The student section is undeniably the most vocal and adds the most to the atmosphere.
3. Fewer students involved leads to fewer future alumni being involved.

Now that I did my rant, it doesn't really apply to anyone here as no one was yet complaining, just pointing out facts.

According to JP in an email he sent a buddy of mine, only 4,900 have been sold so far. That is sad!

Seriously? :Ouch: That really blows... hopefully that number will go up as the season rolls on.

EDIT: Now that I think about it, student ticket prices were jacked up about $20-30 from last year. It almost turned me off enough not to buy them, but maybe a lot of other students decided not to get them at all. It may not seem like a lot to you normal season ticket holders, but we students are very short on cash. ;)

You are going to spend money on what you see as a priority. Many many many people choose to prioritize the alchohol over the sports.
An extra $20-30 more than last year is just $3-4 more per game. That is nothing. Come one students, start picking up those tickets!

That seems to be the stereotype, unfortunately. College students waste all their money on beer and nothing more. Myself, I'm an art major, so I don't have a whole lot of time for a job, so I live off the money I've made over the summer. For 75% of the student population that's still underage, wasting money on booze isn't even an option.

That is a pretty bigoted opinion, sir. Very few of my friends here drink at all- believe it or not, there ARE plenty of students who choose not to drink- and yet most of them still can't afford season tickets. I certainly couldn't, if I weren't in the band. Last week, I spent $844.57 on my required textbooks for this semester. I'm too busy with school to have a job, so much like AirWalke, I have to live off of the money that I made during the summer. I absolutely do not spend any money purchasing alcohol, so that can't be the reason that I couldn't afford season tickets.

Please think about your sweeping generalizations before you use them to condemn 35 million college students at once. Thanks.

I shouldn't have just used alchohol as my example. I actually worked exclusively with college students until I changed jobs last month. So I know quite a bit about their spending habits. It goes far beyond alchohol. How about the amount of money spent on gaming systems. From high performance top of the line gaming computer systems to the xBoxes and Playstations. Or the great number that spend thousands on their car sterios. My point isn't that all college students are alchoholics and that is all they will spend money on. Rather, I don't believe that college students are as poor as they make themselves out to be. I know that there are exceptions to this. There are a lot of students that are just barely making it financially. But the vast majority have the money but simply choose to spend it elsewhere.
