I've got tix to Billy Joel in KC December 6th. It's a surprise for the wife so I hope she isn't lurking on here. We'll come in that day and spend two nights probably. Anyway the question I have is we can stay down by the Sprint Center which will be nice and convienent for the concert, but I'm not familiar with that area. Are there going to be places to eat, places to consume adult beverages, etc.? Otherwise we'll stay at the Plaza and drive in for the concert etc, and shop etc out there. Thoughts?

I think you'd be better staying at the plaza so you can walk everywhere for food/beverage. Besides Arthur Bryants I can't think of much in the Sprint Center area.

Many places to spend your money on the Plaza so of your two options I'd stay there. Ruth's Chris Steak House serves a nice slab of of red meat, if you and your wife are so inclined.

If you did not want to spend a lot, check out the Quarterage on the web. quarterage kansas city - Google Search
I have stayed several times in Westfair. It is in historic district for Civil War. Great free breakfast. Free parking. Not a national chain. Check out the website.Fairly Close to the plaza.

The plaza is your best bet. They are opening a bunch of food and drinking places right next to the Sprint Center called the "Power and Light District" but it sounds like it will not be open until Big 12 tourney time. The city wasn't happy about the grand opening of the Sprint Center opening next to a bunch of "Coming Soon" signs but it should be very nice once it is finally going.
