That sounds a lot like what ISU fans were saying during the 2006 season. I personally am not aware of one person who liked Barney Cotton, and Skladany coordinated our defense like we still had Nik Moser, Steve Paris, Ellis Hobbs, Jason Berryman, and Nick Leaders.

Do you really think Kirk Ferentz's job is on the line?

I'm not sure about the specifics of Ferentz's contract. But assuming he makes $3 Million per year and all of that is guranteed, it will cost roughly $15 Million to fire Ferentz. I think he is signed through 2012.

I suppose he could take an assistant job in the NFL and waive the salary. I don't, however, see Ferentz doing that nor do I see any pressure being applied on him by the AD's office.

The firing of the coordinators will have to come from the AD's office. Ferentz resembles another coach very familiar to the Cyclones...

If he doesn't make changes after a bad year this year, and next year is a 4th year in a row, for the money he's making - yes it would be on the line.

On Deace's program Zabel claimed that Iowa would have a Nebraska type tradition if Forest Evashevski would have remained the head coach and not gone on to be AD after the feud with the AD. It is classic Zabel, get pressed on IA having a poor football team, and he goes back to the 1950s.

Re: Iowa Hawkeye Radio Talk show Meltdown

I don't know if anyone else heard it, but today on Marty & Miller some idiot hawk fan calls in and is obviously quite PO'd about this last weekends events. I was with him right until he made the comment that "You know, Hawk fans drove out another coach earlier this year(Alford) and right now he has more right to be our coach then Ferentz". Now, I love the meltdown of hawknation as much as anyone, but could this guy be any more wrong?????? I don't think so

I mean seriously folks....I was hoping that Alford would get a lifetime contract so he could lay an egg every year in his coaching. It would also be great if Ferentz got forced out of Iowa because hawk fans are too stupid to know what they have in a coach plus I could actually like the guy and root for his teams again. Ya, their paying him a lot, but look what he did in the 3 yrs that everything worked for him. Even putting him on the same planet as Alfraud is a crime in the making.

Ya ya ya, I know I don't give much respect to EIUCC and basically wouldn't pee on them even if they're on fire, but that guy was either sniffing gasoline or he didn't eat enough before he started huffing this morning in his 1 1/2 room trailer that buts up to the rear entrance of Walmart right next the the car with a permanent Lit up Domino's sign that has no muffler and a bumper sticker that says "Honk if your parents still talk at family reunions after their divorce" and also looks like it has dark brown interior carpeting when in fact it is just chewing tobacco stains and 3 of his 10 pet hamsters live in the old 1981 Chevy Chevette 2 door lot lizard picker upper........But at least he is only down to 10 payments on the car he has owned for 13 years....

You spend an incredible amount of time on a message board of an instate rival. Why? Do you not like your hawkeye message boards? Your comments are generally defensive which is what I would expect from a rival. I'm just perplexed why someone would subject themselves to so much time on negative comments. I thought these message boards were generally for the good old boys club. Apparently you enjoy all the negative banter.

Actually, it's not a claim that is too far off. Evashevski left Iowa in 1960. During the 50's were Iowa's winningest years (until the mid 80's), and under Forest, Iowa won a "national title".

The Iowa program was the best in the mid west during that time, and was gaining steam, until Evashevski left and Nebby hired their new coach and built their program.

Iowa had the tools, the team, the fans, and the athletic department to build a power, but when Paul Brechler and Evashevski had a little blow out, and Evy left, Iowa went 20 years with losing seasons.

Who knows what would have happened, because that was 50 years ago, but it's not like Zabel wasn't basing his claim off of anything. It's irrelevant now though, so who really cares?

Any idea why this isn't in the "In-State Rivals Board?"

Zabel probably thinks it still is the 1950's.

Can yo imagine how good ISU could be if Jimmy Johnson stuck around for the HC job?

Can you imagine how good ISU could be if Earl Bruce would have stayed HC?

Can you imagine how good ISU could be if Glenn Scoby Warner would have stayed HC?

Can you imagine how good ISU could be if John Cooper would have stayed HC?

Get the pattern??? Zabel is so far off base with his wanna be history that it is funny... well pathetic really. And to grab on to would of's and could of's from yesteryear, tells how you think of your program now .....

Zabel's Gobble is Hawkeye Homerism at its worst .... DMac takes a better job as a coordinator than the HC job at ISU? ... puh-lease.

Re: Iowa Hawkeye Radio Talk show Meltdown

The biggest problem about forcing a coach out as an AD is do you have a replacement. JP is great at this. He knows who he wants and seems to have a plan in place before the old coach leaves.

I'm not sure who the Hawks think they could go and get better then KF. It looks like there could be some big time openings this year, and I don't think that Iowa is going to beat out the likes of Mich or other big names.

They have show they will throw a ton of money at the problem just like 'Bama, but the Iowa job is not the Bama job.

So who do you get if KF is forced out?
