Re: Tim McClelland on Dan Patrick Show

I think that's a deserved title. I read a few quotes that said the Padres didn't challenge his call in part because he is so well respected.

I have zero problem with his call. If you've gotta be in just one place a time, where he is and what he called was where you need to be and the call you need to make.

Until they put instant replay in baseball for stuff like that, things like this are going to happen.

He said that no replay he saw convicen him he was wrong... Also said it didnt convince him he was 100% right either... Said the same thing about the call on the Atkins homerun/double.

He gets paid to have the authority to make that judgement call and I stand by that. I would never want to be an MLB umpire. I couldn't handle those things.

Tim is usually the highest rated umpire amongst the players and has been in enough controversial situations (George Brett pine tar, Sosa's corked bat for examples) that no one is going to argue his call because he's proven to be one of the best. Even the Padres manager did not doubt him.

He was overrated on that play. Fellow never touched home and he was very slow in calling him safe. He never did convinvce himself if his call was correct. Now he has to live with it. At least replay would have taken some of the burden off him. By the way, Garrett Atkins ball was scuffed to hit the yellow line, hit the back of chair and projected with proper trajectory back unto the field. They should have won in the 9th but it may have gone longer than the 13th if we had replay. With replay, more cameras would have been set up in more places. Umps continue to blow the homerun calls. Masybe they need one of those illegal immigrant fence sensors to see if ball broke the plane. That big gal with the glove did the hometewam no fasvors. If she had touched it, the umps would not have made the wrong call. Ha-ha.
Looking forward to CFH magic for the next bball season, Georges style.

How about this. Trevor Hoffman does his job and we're not having this conversation.
Had he not blown another save over the weekend then there wouldn't have been a one game playoff.
