Just had to share a good dialogue I had with one of my 6th grade Hawk-fan students today.
(myself): "So, do you think the Hawks are going to win this weekend?"
(kid): "Yeah, I know they are"
(myself): "Do you know who they are playing?"
(kid): "No, who?"
(myself): "They've got Penn State"
(kid): "Oh yeah, my dad says he's going to try to get me tickets to their bowl game"
(myself): "You mean Penn State's?"
(kid): "No, Iowa's bowl game"
(myself): "Did you just say...bahahahahahaha" (holds stomach and laughs heartily for a good 10 seconds as kid stares blankly at me)
“I’m just glad I have Homan as my bodyguard,” Eustachy joked. “If I ever make it real big and get to drive a limo everyday, he’ll be driving it. I thought he came off the bench like somebody was stealing his cow or something.”
WOW! You have a kid in 6th grade that is a Hawkeye fan? Most of them only make it to 5th grade.
He's one of the few, the proud, the literate of the Hawk fanbase. Trust me though, it's extremely difficult for them to get through me and be a Hawk fan in 7th grade...the buck stops here

My wife teaches 4th grade. Anytime (all sports) we play eiu the students are aware of it. Extra recess if we win. If we don't win she is in Cardinal and Gold the next day. Although we live in an area dominated by black and gold she sets (very intentionally) the example of what being a die-hard Cyclone fan means.
I have twins in kindergarten that came home saying they had to sing the Iowa fight song in music class last Friday..... But they can't sing a Christmas carol...

That teacher better be glad that I don't have kids!
