It has nothing to do with to's, and every thing to do with attitude, we played with attitude Saturday. I understand in your fervor to defend the mediocre legacy of your hero, you wouldn't understand that because you saw it so infrequently over the past 12 years with Mac in the fetal position so often.
Attitude is nice but I'd rather win football games. Personally, I'd rather see ISU win with a terrible attitude than lose with a good attitude.

YOU should understand that, especially coming from the guy who started a thread all upset with McDermott after we lost to Mizzu at home last Winter.
So its ok to bash and bash and bash Mac but its not ok to be critical of Greg McDermott after a bad loss? So you are one of those people who thinks Gene Chizik is untouchable and deserves no critisim whatsoever...that makes a lot of sense.:nah:
It's pointless arguing about this but I would like you to answer 1 question if you would. What good are you doing on this message board or to the Cyclone community by repeatedly, and when I mean repeatedly I mean every other post, bashing Dan McCarney? We all understand your stance and you are entitled to your opinion but why keep bringing it up over and over again? (Sorry that was 2 questions). I really would like your answer.

No answers then?

You want an answer junior, I'll give you one.
As I was growing up, Iowa State was a blip on the radar screen. We got highlights against the big boys. It was also when Iowa rose to prominence under Hayden Fry, so it was difficult being an Iowa State fan.
As I got older, and began to understand how things worked, I came to realize that the guys we had coaching never stood a chance. The stadium was horrible, the facilities were bad, and there was no money to even recruit with (Walden's budget for recruiting was the same his last year as it was his first).
Then Dan comes in, and I was excited, just like everyone else, because Gene Smith promised a bunch of improvements. Maybe, just maybe, I thought, we can do something.
But then, I watched the way the team was coached. Dan was left more talent that the revisionists will ever admit (not that it was much, but more that people insinuate), especially on the offensive side of the ball. We lost to everybody, took beating after beating, 3-8, 2-9, 1-10, etc...I thought it was just Iowa State, never will win here.
But then an amazing thing happened, K State (who Sports Illustrated called the WORST program in college football history a few years earlier), started to win. Va Tech started to win, hell Northwestern won.
It was at that point that I realized that it wasn't the place, it was the vision.
We got bowl eligible, and I said to another friend, we will measure the worth of this team against K State. Again that was a senior dominated team, and they curled up and let K State kick them around for an afternoon. What that told me was that after SIX years, we had not closed the gap at all. But hey 9-3, yay.
It became a pattern, we would bow up on the bad teams, and shrink against anyone with a pulse. It was at that time I saw the stat that he hadn't beaten a conference team with a winning record.
Then I noticed the articles that were being written about Iowa State football. All had the same theme, look what I did (btw, it was nice of Iowa State not to fire my *** like everyone else would have). But it wasn't that impressive, especially when he had more than a lot of the schools I mentioned, and they actually won big games.
I noticed that the spin became more blatent, as the results diminished (02-03). He preyed on the second class citizen mindset of the fans of this university by focusing months ahead of time on the Iowa game.
But I think the capper was that he finally beat kNU, K State, CU, etc and acted like he beat Tommie Frazier, or Michael Bishop, or Kordell Stewart.
With that for background, I will summarize it like this. Everyone on here gets their dander up when "national" media says we should be happy with what Dan did, or that Iowa State is impossible to win at, blah blah, you know all of them "little brother mentality." Where do you think all of that was framed at, when our coach is telling the fanbase ohhh what a program (you know the spin), but he painted a much different picture for the national, even regional media all for self aggrandizement. Sucking up to specific people, making sure that he never got any bad press. I respect that publicly he tried to be the face of Iowa State, but it was a joke amongst many in the conference media.
It is that mindset, the "spin, look what I overcame," and the fact that he worshipped for being below average, even in the last 6 years he was here. That mentality holds back this program, athletic department, nearly as much as any financial shortcoming. And I think we can do better. That is why.
BTW regarding McDermott, questioning whether he can lead the program is beyond being critical. I guess I shouldn't expect you to know the difference, like most everything else:no:.
Re: More hate from Dienhart
You have this long post but you never did answer either one of my questions. I asked what good does all of the bashing do now? And do you think that contributes to the Cyclone community?
And thanks for the referring to me as junior...I kind of like that.
Re: More hate from Dienhart
Ok Never forget what held you back. Simplified it for you.
Wait, those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it.
