Re: Job help: Bank/loan position
FDIC is always trying to hire people and they pay well. I agree that being a regulator would be a good way to start and gain expierence with banks.

I graduated from ISU a couple years ago and have been employed ever since...but I'll still take "you should do" advice from people that know what they're talking about. -

I do have to agree with some of the other advice though, my father is a banker (in Nebraska though) and I started college with a major in finance and his advice to me was to become an examiner first. The experience you gain and the contacts that you make will put you ahead of the others. My two cents.

Of course! Everyone on this board knows everything. I thought you'd know that! -

I didn't know that I know everything. So that explains this damn headache! -
Re: Job help: Bank/loan position
I'm wondering, what exactly does a bank examiner do?
I've also noticed that First National Bank of Omaha has Management Trainee programs. Does anyone have any experience with those.
I, too, will be graduating soon (next spring).

I, too, will be graduating soon (next spring). When I worked as a bank examiner many years ago, everyone started as a "generalist." The primary responsiblity was to assess the safety and soundness of the institution being examined. A written examination report was issued. The primary areas reviewed included; capital, asset-quality, management, earnings, and liquidity. Compliance with requlatory requirements was also evaluated.
When I left banking many years ago, more and more of banking regulators were specialists; consumer compliance examiners, trust examiners, capital markets examiners, etc.
Not to beat my own drums but I was in-charge of regulating capital markets activities for a large area. My speciality was reviewing "risk controlled arbitrage" which is a term for purchasing mortgage derivatives, funding the assets with LIBOR and hedging the interest rate risk.

I say quit school right now and become an usher at Hilton and JTS. You get to watch all the games for free! ... maybe a part-time job at a bar on Welch for some extra income and random chick hook-up. Now that would be a pretty sweet life. -

You can get chicks when you live in your moms basement and make $6 an hour?
