Re: Question for Clone fans re: coaching change

Nobody that defends Mac wants 7-5 and the Independence bowl to be the best that ISU can do...they just appreciate the fact that it's a winning season, whether it's wins over the likes of UNI, Iowa and a down north division or not...winning seasons have been a rarity for ISU football...nobody is drooling over the guy for going 7-5, but they are glad that for at least six years ISU was on the college football map as opposed to being an unknown or being used for a good laugh...the fact that people stick up for Mac does not mean they thought he was a great coach, or that they accept mediocrity...it just gets old that anytime anyone says anything even remotely close to being a compliment about Mac, it supposively means they think ISU couldn't do better than 7-5, or they are accepting mediocrity, or they think Mac was the best gameday coach in the nation...most EVERYONE that is appreciative of Mac wanted the change that we got too, and every clone fan wants to get to the next level...not thinking McCarney was the worst thing to ever happen to ISU doesn't mean a person is "accepting mediocrity".

I know the team fell short several times in the last few years when they were on the verge of winning the Big XII North, but I really liked him and thought he was doing a good job for Iowa State.

Also curious about your impressions of Chizik.
Simple answer: hell yes. Complex answer: of course you liked him, and every other school's fans liked him, because except for Iowa and the bottom dwellers of the big12 he rarely beat you. I like Kirk Ferentz...I didn't when he was winning big10 titles but now I hope he stays a while because Iowa sucks. Would you like your coach if you were losing to baylor, had only 3 or 4 wins against conference opponents that finished the season with winning records in his entire 12 year career??

Had Dan's recriting sliped or was it the assistant coaches like Barney that did not recruit as well. Thougght Dan pretty much had tough 2 stars as athletes. That was the player level that we attracted.
Looking forward to CFH magic for the next bball season, Georges style.

Mac is headed to the Cornhuskers as Def. Coordinator and Asst Head Coach. That's the talk in Lincoln.

    (7-5) right.
Now; we will win 6 games in 2009 and everyone will complain and ruin recruiting; we will be right back where we are today with a new coach. new ad, and 1 win in 2011.

    You don't get it.
    What the....?

    I hope this was sarcasm.

First of all, we weren't on the map, Shreveport, Boise (unless its Boise St, and the Houston Bowl doesn't make you relevant, it's regurgitating the same old spin, but that's besides the point.

It isn't showing appreciation, I was very complimentary of the job the guy did in '04. It's the twisting of facts, and the half truth blanket statements that this guy, who had one good year, used to keep his job. Then to have to hear it all over again.......Silly.

However, the fact that I still read the same people spitting the same nonsense, well that goes to show how far we really have to go as a fanbase (because it is embracing underacheivement).

My assessment is that Mac was beginning to take too many chances in getting better athletes but they had grade issues. Many times they didn't show up. Our attrition rate was terrible. Mac was okay at recruiting but not great. Some have said that he actually was a pretty good coach at getting the most out of what the athletes had. Mac was very conservative and seemed afraid to take chances and put the game on the line. This resulted in ISU playing the games close (if we were in the game) rather than delivering the KNOCKOUT blow.

Our O-Line Play was terrible. Play calling was predictable. Mac was Loyal to his assistants and resistant to change. I thought Skladany wasn't too bad. BUT he seemed unable to adapt to the loss of safeties Moser and Paris, plus Leaders and Berryman, and Matt Robertson. I guess we didn't realize how good our safeties were, especially Moser. Our recruiting didn't have the replacements for our player losses. This ultimately gets back to Mac who had been here 12 years. Mac was like an old girlfriend. You might love him, but you know that it is best to part ways and move on. So we have moved on.

There is nothing inaccurate about that statement, we never had that much talent in his 12 years here. It's impossible to recruit here, and we can never expect to win, just the way it is buddy.

Deal, we can relive the glory days of Dan's, and realize that it was truly, truly a miracle that we ever won a game. After that, we can blame Wayne Morgan for something. That sounds like full day. I'll bring the brie.

I don't know the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to please everyone.
