Iconic Cyclones players and moments>>>

Hi all:

I am a recent graduate of ISU and I am working on a little project that has led me to research the history of ISU sports, especially my favorite sport of football. I am looking for you to share any memories of players and iconic moments in the history of the Cyclones. I am looking for colorful characters and moments, mainly for football, but I want some basketball and wrestling examples as well. Some examples I can think of without doing any research would include:

Seneca Wallace's run against Texas Tech and the ridiculous comeback against Iowa and the (almost) win against Florida State. I also loved his nickname: "Sin Daddy in the White Caddy".

The Eel and his kickoff returns. (Disclaimer: I am not old enough to remember the Eel, but I have always remembered his name, though I don't know the context of his heroics.)

Kantrail and Jamaal hitting 3's from all locations of Phog Allen.

Gary Thompson's ISU team beating Wilt the Stilt's Kansas team at the Armory in 1957.

The career parallels of Dan Gable and Cael Sanderson.

The Dirty Thirty squad.

Are there any websites that have information on the history of ISU sports? I'm looking for any kind of information-- for example, did Clyde Willams Field have any sort of unique feature such as unique signing, etc.? Any help is much appreciated and I can't wait to hear expanded information on any of the examples above plus many many many more from the wise members of this forum! Thanks a lot!

Gary Anderson's ISU team beating Wilt the Stilt's Kansas team at the Armory in 1957.
Might want to make that Gary Thompson.

Wasn't Gary Anderson a kicker in the NFL?

Also the sign "Honor before Victory" I believe was at Clyde Williams Field.

That's what happens when watching NFL football while typing. I have met Gary Thompson a few times and, yes, Gary Anderson was indeed a kicker in the NFL. Thanks for the catch.

Gotta have something about Troy Davis going for 378 against Missouri.

Jeff Hornacek's game winning shot against Miami of Ohio in the 1986 (?) NCAA tournament. When asked by a reporter what he called that shot, he replied, "I called it 'I hope it goes in'!". Also ISU beating Michigan the next game of that tournament.

The outdoor track ran around the field at Clyde Williams Stadium and under the stands at one end of the endzone. The story I always remember about that track was the great runner Jim Ryun (I think of KU fame) was approaching the part to go under the stadium seats in first place in his mile run and fell down. By the time he "disappeared" under the stadium he was in last place. When the runners came back out into view, Ryun was once again in the lead.

J'Maine (sp?) Billups punt return for a TD to seal ISU's first bowl victory.

Ellis Hobbs III interception to seal Independence Bowl win (2nd in history).

Troy Davis is an obvious choice.

Fred Hoiberg scoring 17 straight against KU at Hilton.

Marcus Fizer and Jamaal Tinsley lead ISU to Elite Eight.

Thanks everyone for all of these moments so far...

I'm curious to hear from someone the impact George Amundson and Alex Espinoza had on our program.

Also, does someon have a diagram of Seneca Wallace's run against Texas Tech--- not a video, but a diagram showing his path across the field.

Can someone elaborate on this scene that I have stuck in my head from childhood-- all of the ISU basketball players running around like crazy while Oklahoma State players have their head down... I think it was on a poster of some sort. Thanks all.

Alex Espinosa had the strongest arm in the history of college football. Stronger than Brett Favre. His problem was he could not hit anyone. Just wiz it over there head. He threw it as hard on a screen play as a hail mary pass.

He hurt his leg his junior or senor season. Can't remember which one. It was downhill from there for his College.

I think Espinoza just contributed to the Criner culture...

I don't know what OSU game you're talking about. Who is in the picture? If its Hoiberg, Thigpen, etc. its probably the OT game where the Hilton floor was shaking.

Better put Lafester 'going off' in there...

also Fizer/Tinsley's thrashing of UCLA in the Tournament..the most impressive ISU win in any sport, I have ever seen.
