ISU football team plane late.....again.

Team arrrived home Sunday morning at 8:00 AM due to no plane.....again.

This same thing happened in Toledo and I can't believe this happened again.

This has to take a toll on the players and coaches. We need to get this problem fixed as this is the last thing our team needs to deal with.

From the CR Gazette newspaper:

On the fly

Iowa State’s long night in Lubbock continued through the early morning hours as the team plane did not get off the ground until 4:55 a.m., about 7 1/2 hours after the game ended.
After several hours in buses on the runway because of computer problems, the school’s charter company had another plane arrive from Roanoke, Va. The team landed in Des Moines at 6:30 a.m. and finally arrived in Ames just before 8 a.m.
Players and coaches tried their best to rest and relax while waiting for the second plane.
‘‘We just sat there,’’ Blythe said. ‘‘They played a movie for us. I was just listening to my headphones and trying to sleep a little bit. After a game like that I just want to get home and get to bed. ‘‘We couldn’t do that till 8 in the morning.’’
Radio voice John Walters tried to catch some ZZZs underneath the buses where luggage is stored. ISU athletics director for communications Tom Kroeschell was working on about 90 minutes of sleep as of Sunday night.
Half of a work day was wasted because of the delays, which always rankles coaches.
‘‘It was ridiculous,’’ Blythe said. ‘‘We’re usually in meetings and stuff all day (on Sunday) but they gave us the day off and said we’ll come back in the evening and hit it.’’
It’s the second road trip this season that ISU has been stranded at an airport.
The team didn’t arrive home from its Sept. 22 game at Toledo until 4 a.m.

Should have rode home in the equipment truck, I know it was back by noon yesterday.

I wonder how common this is with other teams? If this only occurs with the charter plane that ISU has, I can imagine the disadvantage this creates for our guys. Sunday should be a day of rest, but it definitely shouldn't be slept through.

Deep within the heart of Iowa, a storm is brewing...
... the winds of change ripple throughout the vast fields of corn surrounding the small college town of Ames.

The Gene Chizik era of football continues, and, with it, a renewed attitude of pride, determination, and success.

This is Cyclone Football.

Fire the charter company, JP. I do not care if Buffett owns it. Fire that candy Sass rotten piece of a company. My golly, parked in a Brigadier Bus in the parking lot while we rot. That is the pits. Who would ever want to sit out under the stars in Lubbock or Toledo when you could be in Ames?

EIU is the other Okoboji University for serious students and home of Captain Kirk who pilots the Enterprise on its Trek through the Universe for finding his next great job. Captain, beware of your Superbowl.

That's unacceptable. That company won't be around for long.

It could have little to nothing to do with their plane and pilots, the air traffic system is outdated and overburdened. This kind of thing is becoming par for the course, especially on commercial flights.

Why doesn't the Register have this? (sarcasm)

Ok yes they needed the rest more than I did, and I was sitting in a hotel room at the time...

But I didn't get back to Ames until 10:00 P.M. last night... we had just left the town of Lubbock about the time they were landing in Des Moines

I think I need to go back to bed - 30 hours on the road has taken it's toll on me this weekend

As for the company = yeah 2x in a row, screw them. Go with someone who will earn the money

Oh we will fight, fight, fight for Iowa State, and may her colors ever fly!

This whole thing reminds me of the movie Major league when the owner starts taking nice things away from the team and they have to find ways to win.

The plane lands, and while the ISU team is boarding the plane, an 80 year old mechanic is duct-taping the propeller.

I can't imagine the thoughts that must have run through Chizik's head while they were waiting on the bus. Hopefully he has more patience than I do in similar circumstances. That had to be a very humbling experience...

It was in the DMR also:
A loss to Texas Tech was just the beginning of Iowa State's long night in Lubbock.

Because of a computer glitch that affected their plane, the Cyclones were stranded for nearly 4 hours at the airport. Some players tried to sleep, using their sweats as pillows.

"They couldn't find a hotel that could accommodate as many people as we had," receiver Todd Blythe said. "I think they played a movie for us (on the bus). I just remember I could hear something while I was trying to sleep."

A new plane was secured, and the team finally took off around 4:45 a.m. The Cyclones arrived in Ames around 8 a.m.

"That was ridiculous," Blythe said. "We rolled up to the (Jacobson Building) and it was already light out."

This was the second time in three weeks Iowa State's football team endured delays on a flight home. They also returned shortly before dawn from a game at Toledo on Sept. 22.

Miami Air is the charter service used by the school.

"After a game like that (you're) frustrated, disappointed," Blythe said. "I just want to get home and get in bed."
