Re: Medical Marijuana
According to the poll, 36.17% of those surveyed do NOT favor relaxing the marijuana laws for medical purposes. However, the overwhelming posts on this board seem to support relaxing the marijuana laws for medical purposes.
I ask those that are opposed to any reform in the marijuana laws, what is the rationale for your position?

One would think that the Lakota would have sovereignty to do what they want to on their own soil (e.g., Casinos), but apparently not, according to the US government.
I highly recommend the documentary if you get a chance to see it, or at least read the summary at the link. That's the Bush administration DEA for you. A bunch of thugs focused on the wrong issues (see also the arrests of medical marijuana growers in CA)

Also let it be known I am very far from a "stoner," but I know what marijuana does to you and what alcohol does to you...and alcohol kills MANY more people every year, but is still legal while marijuana isn't, someone please explain that. I guess I could throw tobacco in there too, it kills even more still. And don't give me the marijuana leads to heroine, cocaine, etc. BS. The only people who say that are ones who have never smoked so they'd never know.
As far as medical marijuana, if it really is the best prescription treatment for a specific patient, why the hell WOULDN'T you allow it? I'm for legalizing it, but maybe alcohol kills more because it is legal? In other words, easier access and more people using would mean that it kills many more people. We really don't know how many would be killed if marijuana was legal, do we?

Your argument goes both ways. If marijuana were legalized, I suspect that there might be less crime.

Re: Medical Marijuana
While this is a site that is for the legalization of medical Marijuana they have compiled a list of different medical studies with references to them of what is known so far. Recent Research on Medical Marijuana - NORML
Most of the studies are conducted over sea's because it is illegal in the US.

This and the fact that we have a bad enough problem with zombies who are constantly drunk, we don't need to have marijuana legalized so that we can be overrun with zombies who are constantly high. I don't see the point in legalizing something that we know puts people into an alternate reality and has no value to society.
Before you turn this on me with the alcohol argument, I would be in favor of a ban on alcohol.

Re: Medical Marijuana
After giving this some more thought tonight, I think my main problem with legalization of marijuana is the argument that "well, alcohol is bad too, but it's legal". Ok, you would be correct in that argument, but like it or not, alcohol use is ingrained and for the most part accepted in our society. That doesn't make it right, but there it is. Using the legality of a poor habit to justify legalization of another poor habit rings hollow. -

Druggies steal the pain killer Oxycontin from pharmacies and grind it up to get an intense high. Should we then outlaw Oxycontin? Why single out marijuana? We're only talking about legalizing for medicinal use, right?

Think about how much you'd make for a bushel of marijuana next to a bushel of corn...the only farmers that I could see NOT growing legal marijuana would be those that were morally opposed to it. Soon there would be a shortage of corn and beans, and then we would come back around...I just think it would create some major issues with farming if it were legalized. They would almost have to pass some legislation on how much you would be allowed to grow....your thoughts? Hell, if was legal I'd even move back to Iowa and buy a farm again................maybe not.

Re: Medical Marijuana
Just for the record Bill Richardson signed the Marijuania Medical bill in New Mexico last year and the Bushies filed a lawsuit against the State of New Mexico to block it.
Go figure...................
