You know its bad...
when you catch a Navy-Pitt game on national TV. J-Poll needs to enter into a rogue agreement to play 4 games on Tuesdays next year. Maybe with the artist formerly known as Outdoor Life Network....we took them for a spin for the game against the Johnson County Jail All-Stars and it worked better than the internet video feed from Toledo.
Just a thought. Its agony hearing stories like "the Navy kicker got an autographed photo from the Secretary of the Navy after a game winning FG against Air Force last year".

Re: You know its bad...
And why in the hell did Wannstedt go for the TD there in double OT rather than tying the game up with a FG?! Especially with a fade route pass as the play call?!!?!

Re: You know its bad...
I think Wanny's whirlpool is approaching 212 F....
seriously though, you have to admire the academies...considering the difficulty of recruiting kids who have D-I talent, but aren't too big (military regs), qualify academically, and want to serve for 4 yrs after graduating... it's really incredible they can compete at all in D-I. I saw Navy beat Air Force last year in Colo Springs and although they ran on probably 90% of their plays , they played VERY fundamental, disciplined football and were very physical.
I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around the banks will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered. One more ex pro coach having a tough time going to school in the college ranks.
Looking forward to CFH magic for the next bball season, Georges style. -
Re: You know its bad...
Wannstadt has always struck me as the poster child for what's wrong with pro football coaching. The guy has a long history of losing, yet gets hired again and again. Is it the coaching pool that is so small? Do owners just have a problem with hiring anything but a name and a pedigree?
Or does Wannstadt actually have some huge success in his career that I'm unaware of?

or maybe he just forgot they were at home? or even worse, maybe they were outnumbered by navy fans in their own stadium?

Re: You know its bad...
He was a good defensive coordinator for the Cowboys...horrible head coach. Much like Norv Turner, great offensive coordinator, can't be a head coach.
I wonder if Jimmy didn't teach these guys anything - not that he was a model head coach - but the guy did win.

Re: You know its bad...
norv turner going to San Diego hurt 2 franchises. The chargers because he isn't a good head coach, and the 49ers because of the work he could have done to help Alex Smith.

Or does Wannstadt actually have some huge success in his career that I'm unaware of? He is a horrible head coach as 22 said. Between Jauron and him (damn, the Bears made some bad coaching selections), they made being a Bears fan rough.
And when did college football start playing every day of the week. If anyone noticed, Boise State actually played on a Sunday night last week. I think M&M said that there was a game every day last week except for Monday.

John Feinstein wrote a book called A Civil War, and it's about football at the academies. I recommend it highly.
It details a year in the life, the fact that these kids (some of the finest young men and women this country has produced), go through fb as well as the life as a Cadet or Midshipmen is enough for me to root for them every game.
The telling quote is from a former Army coach, when he said that football practice is the easiest part of their day. -
Re: You know its bad...
When we were in Colorado last year, we went to the Air Force Academy and saw the stadium...I like the facility.
I'd enjoy watching a game there sometime. When we were out there, they were getting ready for their big game against Notre Dame. I think we were down there on Friday and the area was going nuts.
Too bad the game this year isn't at Air Force - I think they got a good shot at ND.

This is why college football should only be played on Saturdays.

Re: You know its bad...
I wonder what the attendance was at the game last night. It looked pretty bare, especially for a game heading toward overtime. I know it is a Wed night, but the student section looked dead to. I don't think it is a good idea to move games off campus.
Step 1: Cut a hole in the box.
