Re: John Miller-Central Iowa Sports Radio

I heard that the KCCI news director called in and was not very nice to Miller.

Must have been a slow sports day?

Now, isn't it against the law to sit there and watch a crime go on without doing anything to prevent it, especially when it puts lives in danger? The article even admits they didnt even call the police untill the kids went after the log...

Did he finally call in? When I had to stop listening, they couldn't get ahold of him.

He may not have been very nice to Miller, but Miller was right. That KCCI cameraman could have been standing there taping someone get killed instead of stopping those dope kids from tossing crap from the bridge.

I didn't listen to it myself. I was in class <Yawn>, but my husband said that he called in.

    Ok, I wish I would've heard that.

I hadn't seen the video until I got home - after I listened to the whole radio rant. On the way home, I have to say that I thought Ken was way off base. But after seeing how much footage KCCI gathered while watching those kids throw tons of stuff, go get more, keep throwing - well I have to say he was right and KCCI should be ashamed.

Would've liked to hear what possible defense the news director could present.

My question - where were the cops during this whole escapade? KCCI said they were led to the scene by the call on the police ban. So they get there first, tape at least 5-10 minutes I'd say, and the cops finally show up after this? And on E 9th street with the police station maybe 12 blocks away????

Bad job outta you DSM PD.

M&M are actually very entertaining. Miller's dry sense of humor cracks me up. Sure there are times where I want to hit Marty with a board but at least they get worked up and into the show. Cotlar and Jon Miller are just so damn boring. I don't think Cotlar has taken a stand on anything in the history of sports issues so he doesn't offend anyone. And Jon Miller is just not very entertaining and his selection of things to talk about is very limited. His show is so predictable its boring. Week after week its the same stuff (at least it was a few months ago before I stopped listening).

My wife and I switched vehicles a few weeks ago, when she had to start driving downtown each day and using twice the gas.

And I have been missing my XM radio (aka ESPN Radio) each and every day since.

As I posted below, the timeline as KCCI presented said they heard about the kids off the police band, went over and saw them throwing stuff (taped it as well). When they finally threw the log, they called 911 (presumably to say "Where the hell are you?).

Now, where were the police during all this? Again, KCCI learned about it from the police band - or so they say.

Then again, they go on to say that they called 911 when they saw the kid throw the log, but the video shows the cops arriving just as the throw the log.

    Hmmmmmm..

Me thinks KCCI not so honest and/or DSM PD not so competent/responsive.

The M&M conversation about KCCI at 5pm was stupid but Ken called out Marty for exactly what he is: a sell-out/prostitute. Marty has so many places he's getting paychecks or benefits from he can't criticize them any more and the KCCI thing was Ken's point because Marty used to get nuts over things like that and instead defended KCCI. And Marty also got the play by play job for the Iowa Energy right? Which means if the Energy franchise fails Marty can't criticize that either unless he want's to stop receiving a paycheck from them. Ken nailed it and Marty was in total spin mode.

Miller has flat out said it was his life long dream to cover the Iowa Hawkeyes. It's clear that hawkMiller has a hawkeye agenda, yet he tries to somehow pretend to be interested in the Clones, Panthers and Bulldogs. Right! In my opinion, he comes across as disingenuous as most topics on this radio show seem to somehow revert back to his hawkeyes. The most comical element of his show is his portrayal to be the iowa hawkeye Dr. Phil therapist for the iowa fans, with his continual consistent effort to jack up their ego by reminding them of past years success and his formula to remedy the future of their recent demise. Knowing the two and three deep depth charts of the past and current teams really speaks little. Get a life, please. His show also clearly has a Steve ***** flavor, who must be Miller's idol. In my opinion the show is a joke.

You can't just go off of one day every once in awhile. I didn't like Jon much at first, but after listening to him daily, I found he does give the Clones a lot of radio time and respects ISU and Jamie Pollard very much. He openly admits he's a hawkeye fan, but has admitted all summer he was afraid of the ISU-Iowa game. I'm just glad his show mentions ISU in it daily. He is realistic about Iowa being bad this year and admits it daily. He not have the most excitement, but I'll take information and coverage over shock jocks.

Yeah, the police arrived at the time of the log-throwing. So I'm not sure how someone can blame KCCI, as clearly the police had been alerted before the log was tossed.

I think this points out something though... Ken is there to call out Marty and Jon Miller has nobody to call him out! If we are going to have an ALL LOCAL COLLEGE SPORTS show such as Jon Miller then he needs someone else there to call him out, someone with a Cyclone sland who might just happen to know a little about pro sports to fill in some dead time... That is why I am volunteering myself to cohost with Jon as of right now!

......after the KCCI cameraman sat there and taped them throwing rocks and bricks onto the roadway. Those rocks and bricks could do a lot of damage also.

I think Cotlar is my favorite of all three shows. He has great guests, is a really positive guy and I just can't get enough of "whats your beef." He has shown many times in the past his positions on things. Geoff goes well with him as well. Larry has always answered my emails and questions and I really appreciate his show. I listent o M&M purely because it's entertaining.
