Ron Prelow was not a division one player. Tried real hard, but lacked quickness and speed to play at this level. Also had some troubles handling assignments. I'm sure the coaches has visions of him helping out on special teams but it just never materialized for Ron
Ron was my favorite player last year just because he was always confused with Stevie Hicks on the sideline and around campus. I was under the impression that he just wasn't good enough to be a D-1 player and he quit the team.
The way I see it is it is a better to take a risk on good player from a great high school team in Florida than to take a chance on a good player from a good high school team in Iowa. I think that is what it boiled down to with Ron. He was probably more suited to play d-end because of his speed but he was much too small for the college game. Classic tweener that the coaches thought was worth the risk. Not sure I would call it unavoidable. You have 25 ships a year to give out and not everyone is going to work out. Happens at Iowa State, Oklahoma, Florida State, USC.
Think you are referring to Jimmy Morris. Blew his knee out in practice and was never able to recover. Was a student coach last year and I do not know what capacity he will be in this year. In order for him to maintain his athletic scholarship, he must hold some sort of employment in the athletic department.
I hate too be critical, but I would think after 12 years Mac would have more depth instead of starting redshirt and true freshmen. I know injuries have taken it's toll......but still.
a combination of injuries and one high profile self-inflicted ejection from the team....you are tetering on the brink of having 3000 flamethrowers pointed in your general vacinity...do you have a fresh set of clothing that is resistant to the gentle lick of flames at your toes?
