2 Deep Surprises
Few things that caught my eye in two deeps.
First Paul Fisher is not even in 2 deeps at right guard. He is listed as 2nd behind seth Zehr and is on the same line as John Tjaden as backups fro Aaron Brant. I was encourged to see John T. that high, he came in with a lot of hype and I was beginning to doubt we would see him. I had kind of forgotten Bastian Shober as the back up at center.
Not real surprised to see Rashawn Parker at starting DE over Machado, but the two big surprises to me on the DL are Nate Frere (freshman) starting at NT and wnd is Bryce Braaksma listed as backup for Curvey. I am guessing Rubin will get a lot of snaps behind Frere. I hope it is a sign of DL depth rather than trouble ahead. Two true freshman starting on DL, is either great recruiting or a warning sign.
No surprise at starting LB, but I was interested to see how the 2's would shake out. Jesse Smith held off the newcomers and is listed as McKenzies's back up and true freshman Fred Garrain is Carpers back up.
I was somewhat surprise to se Steve Johnson in the #2 spot at cb behind singleton. Hadn't heard much about him this spring or fall. Also of note Jason Harris is co #2 with Brandon Hunley at Safety behind Jon Banks
Believe it or not there will be Josh Griebahn sighting Thursday night as the kick off man.

Who is Griebahn? I have seen his name listed, but I didn't know what he brought to the team. I have to admit I wasn't looking forward to Shaggy kicking off, as accurate as he is he sure doesn't have a lot of leg to go with it.
I'm also pretty tense about two true freshman starting on the defensive line. This is definitly a concern for me.
Edit: Although I'm concerned about it, I'm really looking forward to watching so many young players in their careers here at ISU. I mean you have Arnaud, Johnson, Stephens, Marquis Hamilton all freshman in the two deeps, and Parker, Frere, Garrin, Johnson, Williams, Smith, and Raven in the two deeps on Defense. That is a lot of Talent on both sides in the two deeps, and it doesn't even include a few players that I'm really excited about on defense, in Kris Means and Devin McDowell. Exciting.
Also, Nick Frere is listed in the two deeps at DE, so we could have both Frere's starting next year. All good, exciting things.

What happened to Ron Preloiux? (sp)
-
Did Rubin lose some weight already or was his original 315 lb weight a little exaggerated?

Griebahn, Josh PK 5-8 193 Jr. Iowa City, Iowa (West Branch)
Several years ago was touted quite heavily, lot of press at the time of how Mac used scholarship to pull him out from under Ferentz. He has had some injury problems and is rumored to have really struggled with kicking it off the ground. With tee in hs he had a great leg, but has struggled to get the ball up off the ground resulting in rumor has a lot blocked kicks in practice.

I too am excited to see all the youth on the field. Hopefully many of them mature quickly!

One other thing I noticed is that back up corners are true freshman and redshirt freshman. If you look at the total backfield. Once, James Smith is back we have at the Corners Senior & Sophmores backed up by two freshman. At Safety When James Smith comes back we will be freshman and Jr backed up by senior and Sophmores.
Our coaches will earn their keep this year with the youth that goes from DL to LB's to DB's on defense

Tuba is still 315-320. The 285 was his weight out of high school, I imagine, and it has yet to be changed in the database.

Where is Ron Prelow
Don't see him listed in the two deeps. He always looks like a monster in warm ups. Did he transfer?
-
Ron Prelow hasn't been on the team for a while. I think there were injury issues and he's now helping out in the weight room, but I may be thinking of someone else. I know Prelow hasn't been around for awhile, though.
-
I don't remember what happend to Ron Prelow. He wasn't playing in Spring game either...If I recall he would have been a Junior this year.
-
It was no rumor. I had to suffer though practice everyday watching him line drive balls into the rear ends of our lineman. I am glad to see he stuck with it. At one time, I know he was close to hanging it up. Good for him

Reggie Rock
Or Reggie Rock... Wasn't he a DB out of Minneapolis that was supposed to be pretty good?
