Miami BB: Hot tub and sandbox

Trying to increase attendance.
“UM will add a hot tub, a sandbox and lifeguard tower in the student seating section. Students will be asked to wear beach attire.”
LINK

On a related note: Season ticket sales increased for men in the age group of 10-90.

Certainly interesting...but quite odd. I'm sure the NCAA is loving this (if it's even legit).

Many questions for UM - 10/10/2007 - MiamiHerald.com

From the Herald, linked in the article:

• Determined to boost men's basketball attendance, UM is about to unveil some of the most creative ideas we have ever seen from a local team. Besides dropping most season-ticket prices by about 50 percent, UM will add a hot tub, a sandbox and lifeguard tower in the student seating section -- students will be encouraged to attend in beach attire -- and elsewhere in the arena, in-game shoe-shines, massages, haircuts and a computer work-station will be offered.

I would worry about sand being thrown on the court.

Why don't they just use brass poles to hold up the baskets!

Wow.

Now you can find the sorority girls (and frat guys), business people, high class people, unorganized people, and geeks all at the same event!

WTF?...Miami might have one of the best Atheltic Departments, a pres who doesnt care what happpens...allows questionable athletes to the school (one of the best med schools in the country)...nationally reconized but some how cant get people to games.

You'd think it would be easier to get people to come to games when its 75 degrees out...not like some games in Ames when it's 5 degrees outside.

Thats good. I really can't believe they are thinking about this. Well I think school enrollment went up too!

Basketball is not a big deal in Miami, never has been. Even some years ago when they flirted with success the attendance sucked. At Miami its all about football and baseball. The biggest problem is that it is a private school and very very very expensive to go (believe me I checked into it when I was trying to decide where I wanted to go to college).

I like the hottub idea what better way to watch a BB game than in a hottub filled with hot miami women!!!

I won't lie, if this happens and we get Miami on our schedule - I'd think seriously about heading down that way for a little vaca and the game.

Even the football program, with all it's successes, has trouble with half-empty stadiums on game day. Apparently their facilities are really crappy too.
