Credits: 227,532 | Terrible performance The UNI, Kent State, Texas Tech and Texas performances were anything but spirited which is very disappointing. I've been going to ISU games since 1975. I know this is a new coaching staff, but I see a bothersome trend. We do not "run" to the ball as a team on defense. Your probably thinking it is because we need better faster players. While I do not disagree, Cyclone fans have become used to that common thread excuse. Is it ever going to change at ISU? Hopefully Chizik is the guy, but I'm certainly not convinced yet. Since 1975 there has only been one sustained period of rock solid football and that was Earl Bruce's final three seasons. Do not confuse bowl appearances with good football because during that era there were considerably fewer bowls. For example, Earl's 1976 team finished 8-3 and second in the nation in total offense and due to so few bowl games, we did not get an invite.
Chizik and Pollard have used the words journey and patience. Well, I've been on a patient journey since 1975, so I guess I'll jump back on the bus for another long ride.

I agree. I've been thinking about how I would "grade" Chizik's first half season . . . I really can't come up with a reason to not give him an F. I'm not a chicken little, fire the coach kind of guy . . . I believe every new coach should get 4 years minimum to prove his worth . . . but we've had 7 games and 5 of them have been complete embarrasments (I'm not counting Nebraska as a complete embarrasment, but seeing how bad they actually are, maybe it should be). Hopefully we'll pull an upset or two in the last 5 games and Chizik can get a little momentum heading into the offseason, but I had fairly subdued expectations for this season and even I can't believe how horrible we are.

I imagine you're in your early to mid 30's, so based on the way life expectancy is growing you should live another 60 years. So you've got about 6 bowl games to look forward to!!

It would be nice if the team had something, anything to be excited about. We simply do not have anything.
What I mean by this, is in the lean years of the late 80's early-mid 90's we at least had the Troy Davis's Geoff Turner, Blaise Bryant, etc. type players we could hang our hats on. We do not have any playmakers on this team.
And before I hear about Blythe, when was the last time he made a sportscenter type play? How about a long touchdown reception?

The thing that is disturbing is that I thought I saw improvements in the first 5 games over last years team. However the last two weeks are just like last year, ISU was just a laughing stock of a football program. I really didn't want to buy in to the notion that ISU's talent level was that much worse than the rest of the country, but it is becoming pretty evident. Its not the coaches, it is the LACK of players. Hopefully GC and company can bring some kids in SOON or JTS will be seeing crowds of 20K instead of 50K+.

I thought the same thing about seeing our players and comparing them to theirs.
To spin it positively, there are only three differences between our guys and theirs. Theirs are bigger, stronger, and faster.

I agree with the overall sentiment here. That was just a plain disgusting display of whatever it was - and it sure as hell wasn't football.
At least we saved some money. From what I gather Texas didn't even break a sweat so our hot water bill was a little less.
Heck, the blocking dummys in practice gave Texas more of an obstacle than the Clones did today.

Good show...I went with the homeade "monster biscuits" which entailed: Jumbo flakey biscuit bottom, cheese, sausage patty, cheese, eggs, cheese, bacon, cheese, ham, cheese, and Jumbo flakey biscuit top. The thing that really pisses me off is I can't figure out why my life insurance policy went up because of this "high cholesterol" crap...whatever that means |

My awards for good play - Scales did not fumble, snapper appeared innocuous, Ace had to play pass defense and did well, the oline was not the problem.
If I never see improvement in special teams in next 5 games, I will not be surprised. I saw three guys race down field and then grind to a stop five yeards before the blockers knocked them down. Huh? What kind of sissy play was that. I saw RJ Sumrall catch kickoffs and then braincramp: run sideways for no yards, take a ball a yard from going out of bounds, running slow. Get someone elese to run it back to the 15. Brandtner? Inconsistent. Shaggy kickoffs? Thirty five yeards with the wind? Unbelievable. Special teams started the downfall in first quarter. Can we receuit someone who is really special teams?
