Most dominant IA HS bball player?

Who do you think the most dominant Iowa high school basketball player has been? I think we have only had one McDonald's All American in Nick Collison. I am not sure if Raef LaFrentz was or not. We have had some great basketball players come out of Iowa, but not consistently. Players like Fred Hoiberg, Nick Collison, Raef LaFrentz, and Kirk Hinrich have been amazing. My vote would be Nick Collison.

I posted this because I was watching the Ronnie Fields documentary on You Tube. He was an amazing player in the mid 90's in the Chicago Public League. 6"2" with a vertical of 49 inches. He was Kevin Garnett's teammate at Farragut Academy. 39 dunks in 8 games! He was one of the best Illinois HS basketball players ever. I just got to thinking that Iowa has also had some solid players I just wondered who all of you thought was the most dominant?

I'm going with Freddy.......he was the only one I really watched in high school, obviously because he was coming to ISU. I don't think it's a bad choice.

Re: Most dominant IA HS bball player?

As far as dominating in high school I would have to vote for Dean Oliver. I went to Mason City while Dean played there, and he took over games and was able to score at will against any team. During his junior and senior years Mason City did not loose a single game, and won back to back state championships.

Freddy should get extra points too, as he was the top football player in the state also.

Most dominant IA HS bball player? = Robert Johnson Dsm Lincoln or Roosevelt ??? He just did not make it at the next level for various reasons.

The year Collison made it, the game was held in Hilton, the local angle did not hurt getting him the nomination.

After looking at this, I didn't realize that Jerome Harper was a first round draft pick. And I forgot about Dean Oliver as well.

I don't know, but in North Dakota, it was Les Jepsen.

All this thread tells me is that, although there is the occasional quality player in the Iowa HS ranks, we really need to count on recruits from elsewhere if we are to be successful.

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes.

Re: Most dominant IA HS bball player?

As far as individually, I'd go with Ricky Davis at Davenport North. Signed with Iowa as a freshman, then after 1 year with the Hawks he went pro and became an NBA all-star. Obviously being at North he didn't really have any great team recognition...unbelievable individual player though.
For somebody that was great and also led their team to greatness, I'd go with Nick Collison or Troy Skinner.

**and yes, it really pisses me off that we didn't get any of the 3 guys that I am listing here, but at least Tricky Ricky screwed Iowa over by leaving early and Collison gave them the shaft

“I’m just glad I have Homan as my bodyguard,” Eustachy joked. “If I ever make it real big and get to drive a limo everyday, he’ll be driving it. I thought he came off the bench like somebody was stealing his cow or something.”
